Works out of the box
It runs flawlessly with the default Proton. Also, I could load my save (from a game I've started on Windows) just fine.
Runs out of the box
The game runs fine with the default Proton, but you might want to use Proton-GE if you want to see the videos - while they're not essential for the gameplay, it's worth seeing them if you want to play the Story Mode.
Runs flawlessly out of the box
Just hit play and enjoy! Also, it works fine with the widescreen patch.
PROTON_NO_GLSL=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 DXVK_ASYNC=1 gamemoderun %command%
The game runs flawlessly after applying the parameter "PROTON_NO_GLSL=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 DXVK_ASYNC=1 gamemoderun %command%" (without quotes). If you run the game without it, the performance gets worse and worse each race - this doesn't happen after the tweak, so you can enjoy long sessions without any performance issues after using the command mentioned.
With the default Proton or Experimental, the keyboard doesn't work. Flawless experience on Proton 6.3-8
Flawless
The game runs out of the box with videos playing and everything fine. It feels like a native game. Also, it's really good!
No tinkering, but I've experienced a bug
There was a bug, but I'm not sure if it's game related or Proton related. After playing some different tables and going back to the first table I've played in that session, the table didn't start and I had to quit the game and run again for it to work. My guess it's that this is a game related issue, but I can't be sure since I haven't tested on other OS or a different distro.
Works out of the box with the default Proton
There's a bit of stuttering on the first seconds of the first time playing a table (I guess it's the gaming loading shaders), but after that it's a smooth ride.
Proton-7.1-GE-2
The game didn't worked with the default Proton (it started, but then the screen became black with no progress), but it works fine with Proton GE. You can download it here: https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom
The controller won't be used by default, so you'll need to navigate through the menus, bind your keys and change your resolution. The new resolution will be applied when you start a race, and after that, the new resolution will work on the menus as well. After that, the game is ready. Have fun!
Use the "PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1" command, otherwise it will crash right before the race starts.
DXVK_ASYNC=1
While the game runs out of the box, there's a bit of stuttering by default. By using Feral Game Mode + Asynchronous reimplementation for DXVK you can play the game smoothly. Use the parameter "DXVK_ASYNC=1 gamemoderun %command%" (without quotes) to achieve a flawless performance.
Runs out of the box with the default Proton
There's no controller support for the menus, only while racing, but this is a game's issue (partial controller support). Also, the game runs a bit better for me with Feral's Game Mode ('gamemoderun %command'), but maybe it's because I'm on an older hardware.
Runs out of the box
It runs great with Proton 6.3-6. Just install and hit play. It feels like a native game.
Proton-6.15-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
When starting the game on fullscreen, the game shows up as a hidden window, so it's needed to Alt+Tab for the game to go fullscreen for real. After that it works fine.
Despite the game working with the regular Steam Proton, if you want to see videos from the tutorial, it's needed to use the custom Proton-GE. Run with the command "PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_USE_D9VK=1" (without quotes) for a smooth experience with no stuttering.
The native Linux version is a poorly made port. It's recommended to run the Windows version on Proton for a better experience, which also supports mods, including the major Renaissance Mod. Run with the command "PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command%" for achieving the same performance as the Windows version.
