once the game launches, it runs perfectly smooth. it takes longer to load, but seems to run much smoother than on windows.

If I don't use these launch options, my whole computer hard crashes attempting to launch the game.
use the launch commands and it works fine.
Runs great! Just don't even alt tab out or you'll have to restart the game
game works 100% fine untill you alt-tab out, then the resolution gets messed up and shifted off screen.
once everything is configured correctly, the game runs beautifully. its just VERY picky.

some texture poping/LOD issues. loads low quality textures first then swaps to HD too late. does not affect gameplay.
the game MUST run in Borderless, and start in Borderless or it will hitch badly. you MUST set it to borderless and then restart your game or you'll get serious performance degredation.
Must be on Nvidia Proprietary Driver 550 with forced DX11 and G-Sync turned off in dirver settings or the game will crash the Xserver instance.
For some reason, the frame rate drops BADLY with lower graphical settings in ways that don't makes sense. setting everything to EPIC gives a consistant 144FPS with buttery smooth frame times. lowering any settings results in lag and hitching. I have no idea why.
there is a noticeable drop in FPS from windows, about 15-20 fps lower (100-85), however the game FEELS smoother and faster none the less.
I found that disabling particles and portal effects entirely allowed me to keep every other setting at max, 100% resolution at 1440p. if you don't disabled both of these the fps drops to 50-60, so my guess is that there's something in the emulation that just doesn't like these effects.
as other users reported, the game does stutter a little bit at first, so its best to do a little test run before playing a serious race the first time you start the game. aside from that it runs very smoothly.
Runs better than on windows consistently above 60fps@1440 with max settings. no lag, no hiccups, loads faster. online works just fine.
The game runs smoother than on Windows with the same hardware. much better frame timing consistency. 10/10
Game required 32bit graphics driver libraries that are no longer suppored by Ubuntu/Pop on 64bit systems for Nvidia.

the lame fails to launch. messing with compatability options and moving to an older version of proton gives a pop-up error window saying that a line of code in the provided wine DLL is refrencing a nonexistant library and has failed. the issue is that the library listed is a part of the 32 bit library suite for the Nvidia proprietary driver package, and I can't install it without also installing the 32 bit driver and mucking everything up. attempting to do so anyway fails since apt withholds the packages as they're no longer suppored and conflict witht he 64 bit driver package. There might be a way to fix this, but right now it's not worth my time to rip appart my distros graphics package for one game. AMD gpu or 32 bit users unaffected.
This game will not and cannot run on Ubuntu becase it required 32bit driver libraries that are not suported by the OS. I recently did a fresh install of PopOS and the game now works flawlessly out of the box. sadly, the tinkering required is "Change Distro"
