Overall a pleasant experience, no issues encountered.
Game starts unresponsive with a black screen and cannot go further.

The created local server is not listed on other game clients on the same network.
This game is a Source engine mod that uses the Source SDK Base 2007, which is not supported by Proton. Consequently, all multiplayer features do not work, making this mutiplayer-only game effectively unplayable.

Compared to Windows, more VRAM is used and it is easier to use it all. This then causes a drop in framerate. Recommended to reduce visual quality settings and resolution compared to Windows.
Works as intended without tinkering.
A good experience overall. Without tinkering and/or game modifications, the frame rate is limited to 30 FPS by the game itself, so not a Proton issue.
Does not start.
Cannot go beyond the initial configuration window that allows you to configure the game resolution and other things. After clicking on Start, the game will present an error window with some illegible text, expect for the word "DirectX".
I have tried different version of Proton, both standard and GE flavours, but always got the same result.
Runs with no issues since Proton 5.13-2. Prior to that version, I experienced occasional crashes when entering multiplayer lobbies.
Works as intended
A good experience overall. Only "issue" I encountered was, when pressing Esc during gameplay, the confirmation dialog to close the game has an old school 90s style with a tiny font size.
A great experience overall, just some brief hiccups when loading new areas for the first time.
When loading new areas for the first time, I experienced severe stutters that last 1-2 seconds.
Not starting at all.
Tried also GE-Proton7-24

The game is equally as playable with standard Proton 7, although the videos used for loading screens will not work. Using the GloriousEggroll version solves this issue.
When using the default Proton, my Xbox One controller is detected but the game would not respond to any input. This is not a problem when using Proton GE.
