The game has a bug, to get sound working, switch to Desktop Mode then open terminal in steamapps/common/G String/gstringv2/ (in Steam, right click G String > Manage > Browse Files, in Dolphin Right Click > Open Terminal)
then run python -m ensurepip && ~/.local/bin/pip install vpk && mkdir tmp && ~/.local/bin/vpk -x gstringv2_dir.vpk -x tmp -f "*sound*" && mv tmp/sound/* sound/ && rm -rf tmp
This will install vpk, a tool to extract the content and place the unpacked audio into the sound directory
Disable Steam Overlay while in-game, do not press the Steam button.
- Switch to Proton Experimental
- Disable Steam Overlay while ingame (crashes), don't push steam button
- Switch to "G String" community layout
- Extract audio from gstringv2_dir.vpk
- Enjoy!
install dmusic & gmdls via protontricks
the mouse is incredibly laggy without installing dmusic and gmdls, after that it is fine. no need to downgrade proton
Runs great with ultra settings and post-processing turned down (I did this to remove motion blur and increase fps)

A little small
HUD is a little small, there's a scaling option in Settings
Game occasionally freezes for a couple of seconds, usually when next phase of missions or after warping
Video Quality to Low Target FPS 30
Default Medium Settings caused Steam Deck to crash, Low is fine even when leaving tutorial dungeon and going to outer world.
I highly recommend installing Wizardry 8 Extender for Widescreen Support setting your resolution 1280 x 800, otherwise you'll be playing in a 4:3 aspect ratio.

Low FPS with weather effects (rain), fixed it by enabling Performance Mode in Options
