Proton 9 or Proton GE will have missing textures no matter the video settings used. Switching to WineD3D doesn't fix the issues. Downgrading to Proton 8 is the only thing that makes it work.
Heavy degradation of performance using Proton GE and Proton 9 will have missing textures. Proton 8 on the other hand has better performance than the newer versions and there are no missing textures

Works out of the box
Will get around 160-170fps with a 6800XT. A bit low for such a hardware, but very playable.
With Proton 9 the initial video plays and the game runs without any issues.
I tested Proton GE and it didn't run well, the video was dark and when entering the game I had 1 fps and couldn't see anything.
Unplayable
Initial cutscene does not play (sound can be heard). Afterwards the primary game is black and it stutters with less than 1 FPS. The mouse is moving so slow it leaves its traces behind. I had to force quit with ALT+F4

I have tried using dxvk.conf to spoof to AMD but I think this is the way it is by default, also tried nvidia id's and no luck. ATM with this proton version I get 5-6fps and is generally pretty unplayable, something is seriously going wrong for NVIDIA owners with this game. Apparently it works fine with AMD users, however I can't test this as I have no AMD card. There is a github issue report for this game, but no progress there either. Going to label this as borked!

On Proton it works out of the box with WineD3D. If you use PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command% as a launch option (available since Proton 4.11) the game works great with D9VK (D3D9 to Vulkan translation). Tested with RADV and the new Mesa ACO compiler on Plasma Wayland.

Just tested the start of game with default proton DX9 support and it renders everything fine except performance is not very good and gamma cannot be changed. I also tested D9VK but it just renders black screen for the most part, and might even crash your desktop. The game is Dx9.0c so I dunno why D9VK doesn't work (works in Risen 3 btw)

Game itself is very stable (played for couple of hours, not a single crash) but the FPS is very low: 14 in villages, 20 outside making gameplay less pleasurable. Changing screen/picture settings doesn't seem to have any influence on it. Also, changing colors balance doesn't seem to have any effect so not everything works as intended. Game is playable thou.

6-13fps ingame, otherwise seems fine
