If you're OK with the current externals being from the past century (they will be replaced) and the archaic controls you should be fine.
Some rare crackling, nothing that concerned or bothered me much.
Didn't like my Ch pro pedals, not detected. Also, as its an older game HOTAS were rare, usually a simpler joystick and a throttle. The binding for pitch and roll also binds it to bombardiers Norden bombsight and how the guns track. Not an issue, just worth noting.
I ran it with Proton Experimental, it should work with stable too. Mangohud just gets in the way. If you can get over its age and that its Early Access you're in for a treat, not many games are as immersive as this one. From the Barracks all the way through the briefing and the target film, this was something lost. You will feel a connection to the crew as they fight through their tour of 25 missions, with you assisting on the way. Luck, or lack of it will play its part too.
Installed and run fine without VR. Yet to try VR, but if that runs it will be great.
Yes, but if you bought your modules directly from ED's store then the Steam addition is not for you.
SDL_LINUX_JOYSTICK_CLASSIC=1 WINEDLLOVERRIDES='wbemprox=n' %command%
Elaborating on the Steam addition, if you install that and bind your account on ED's website most of my modules did not show. Unbind didn't make a difference, so it was worthless to me. You can download the DCS Open World Beta from ED and install it as a Non-Steam Game, let it download and install. Don't hit run once its installed as you need to then add DCS Updater as a Non-Steam Game and use this one, and update the launch options as you would normally, along with the protonfixes. Use STL (Steam Launch Tool) for TrackIR. To get the correct compatdata open game, then custom command, and look for where controller should be. You'll probably notice the compdata is not the same as STL claims. When running any TrackIR script make sure to use this compatdata and not the one STL claims in the GUI.
Its Early Acess, not complete, but was fun once I set the resolution to the point the graphics were acceptable and the FPS was high enough.
gamemoderun %command%
Really slow at my monitors normal 4K resolution, dropped down and got a good balance.
Early Access, just released. May not be fully optimized yet and isn't for sure complete yet.
Using 4.2.5, followed the top part of this: https://github.com/redmcg/wine/wiki. Cannot get my Pro pedals to detect, throttle and stick work fine.
Love the graphics, and its a nice strategy game. Not got the custom AI generated race to work yet
__NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 PROTON_SET_GAME_DRIVE=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 gamemoderun %command%
The dev is aware of the current issues with Linux through proton, the launch options I was provided in the Steam discussions pinned topic for Linux worked.
Latest GE, but may not have mattered. Had to install dotnet472 and vcrun2015 to get it running. Using Nvidia driver 450.66. Settings seemed to save OK with my copy.
For me using Steam Beta with Proton Experimental worked right out of the box.
Hit everything to high, and capping around 30 fps. Maybe a little low, but its decent
Drops in performance at the menus, gonna try WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 %command%
Used Proton Experimental, and also FYI if you're not using a controller the menus are keyboard driven, but mouse works great when in game.
Works without issue, whether or not someone is into this type of strategy game is another as its very deep with a functional UI.
2.1 hours in and completed the prologue,. and I set the difficulty to Stalker and found the it reasonbly hard so far.
gamemoderun %command%
Don't use GE-Proton-20, I could hear the game playing on the opening movie, but it was a blackscreen.
Proton 9.0-3 worked fine.
All works, but like its predecessor the in game movies don't work beyond audio.
Skip in game intro with space bar. Movies don't work, black screen with audio, this affects the intro and tutorials only.
Crashes, does not get to initial screen
Tried 5.09 and GE latest:

Used to work, and after update to 2020 it fails to run. I haven't tried more tweaks or logging yet.
Launcher runs fine, but after hitting Start Trainz black screen with audio playing no matter which switches I have tried or even versions of Proton
