The game was enjoyable with no tweaking. The only real issues were graphics glitches with the clouds and some limited keyboard inputs.
The clouds did not display well- they were not realistic at all, but they did not take away from the enjoyment of the game.
The game works well on the Steam deck.
This runs Natively under Linux and the Steam Deck has the added bonus of Vulkan (Both options worked).
Depth of field causes the screen to be mostly black and unplayable.
Menu screens required the use of the touchscreen on the Steam Deck, and it was sometimes hard to make selections.
Note, I didn't notice any bugs (other than the issues with Depth of Field )that relate to running under Linux.
This worked well, odd menu issues aside. It looks like I need to map a controller button to change tank ammo. The planes seem a bit harder to fly than I remember. This game, in general, is glitchy at times in windows too (but it's a wonderful thing and I'm not putting the game down). This is enjoyable!
This game is designed for a regular-sized monitor and a keyboard and mouse. In an pinch, this would work, but you may need to adjust
The map was harder to read because of the size -- but you can zoom in to read it.
This worked a lot better than expected when docked. Frame rates look low(20-40fps depending on setting), but I thought it played really well given the specs of the hardware. It took quite some time for this to be fixed, but finally it's done, and done well.
This is a play test, and not technically released. But it does work, even on the Steam deck, and sounds great, with only small issues.
I had to use the touchpad to install Direct X for UE4. No trouble, but a note.
It was tough to figure out what to use, but I was able to use the touchscreen to do what I needed to do. For this application, this was acceptable.
I played this for probably 20-40 hours on Proton. I've noticed that, occasionally, I get disconnected from a server where I see people aimlessly running around for a minute until it finally disconnects. I haven't seen this on windows, although it's rare enough that it may just be a bug in the game that I haven't run into on windows. The only real issue is that it seems like I cannot reconnect to the same server (even though I know others are actively playing on that same server wtih no issues). Performance-wise, this runs well, at least as good it did on the same computer with Windows.
I just assumed I was using proton, but Native worked great.
I had to change the resolution to match the steam deck, but it was playable after that.
This game works well on the steam deck.
The game does use quite a bit of GPU power for the type of game it is, but the steam deck has way more than needed.
It updates and launches Origin, but I had no issues. Looks really good and played well, as if it were meant for the system.
This has just worked for me without any effort. Using Proton 6.3-8 currently, but I've used others before.
when they added the voice chat function, I sometimes lose the audio and have to switch input and output settings around to make it work again, temporarily. It can be finicky, and other times I have had no issues.
This is just wonderful.
This is a great experience. I think it's better than I remember it working under windows.
I installed it and ran, with no real thought to how it was running. Checked it now with Proton 6.3-8 and it is still running just fine.
had to install uplay through protontricks. This game comes with an outdated client, which doesn't allow you to launch the game (on any platform).
Default game mode appears to be 1024x768, fullscreen, which gave me a popup error initially. for 1080p, I updated (base game dir)/SH3/data/cfg/main.cfg and set Resolution=1920 x 1080 and (base game dir)/d3d9.cfg updated to
resX=1920
resY=1080
I seemed to have the best experience under Proton 5.0-10, and I had trouble with newer versions of Proton( 5.13-6, 6.x, 7.x, 7.x-GE). I was able to launch this at lower versions of Proton, but I saw some graphics glitches (smoke textures or effects did not look right) and there were black bars on the sides of the screen.
in Proton 5.0-10, I noticed that when I was at the periscope spotting ships that when I clicked the left mouse button to change the view of the periscope that clicking again would immediately move the mouse to the fire button and launch a torpedo. Strangely, I didn't see this in Proton 4.11-13.
disk load time appeared to be slower in 5.0-10 than with other Proton versions (159 second load time vs 3.x, 4.x load time of 16s ) but those versions had trouble displaying smoke.
I was able to install mods with no problems by copying JSGME.exe into the base game folder and then running JSGME.exe with Wine (7.1), then copying the directories into the MODS directory under the base game folder . I loaded a couple of mods that way.
Once it's set up, it's fantastic. I can even load mods with JSGME.exe. Look for a 1080p mod.
gamemoderun WINEESYNC=1 WINEDEBUG=-all DXVK_LOG_LEVEL=none
Default game mode appears to be (fullscreen) 1024x768 (which crashed) and I want to run it at 1080p. Launched once to an error, browsed to edit (base game dir)/SH3/data/cfg/main.cfg set Resolution=1920 x 1080 and edited (base game dir)/d3d9.cfg to these lines resX=1920 resY=1080
Then, I had to use winecfg under protontricks to change, I have "Allow the window manager to decorate the windows, Allow the window manager to control the windows, and Emulate a virtual desktop". Filled in Deskop size of 1920x1080.
I could switch windows, but couldn't go back to my desktop within game.
This game fails upon startup on windows as well because of the outdated resolution and configuration. The game is kept alive through modders on steam forums or at subsim, so I believe that someone will really need to do some research to get the most out of this game. I could run this without so many changes on Proton 3.x and 4.x, and 5.0-10 (this version was slow). Past that, I needed to use these tweaks to get it to play on newer versions of Proton.
I played 35 hours and the game runs well, especially with the FORTSU (Fall of the Rising Sun) mod (haven't played much without it).
I saw black borders upon installation of FOTRSU 1.7p3 mod. Repointed to Proton 7.0-1, seems to launch fine now after changing the resolution and restarting the game. May be an issue with using the mod and not a proton issue per se.
To run that mod, I simply had to use 7z (I had problems unpacking this with Ark or other GUI programs) to unpack the mod into the "MODS" folder, then use JSGME.exe (with the package) in the main game directory to enable the mod (ran that with wine). I hit a few errors after enabling the mod which were related to a bad unpack of the mod files, and once I did this with the 7z command-line utility, the mod install went well. Note, the issues are not specifically related to the game under proton and I haven't had problems with proton running this game.
This just worked under proton 6.3-8. I didn't see any problems and it behaved like a native application.
This looked very good and worked with no effort. I imagine it's possible that some keys need to be remapped as I was just learning the game
The game is in alpha currently and simply runs in fullscreen mode with no other options that I saw.
The game ran really well. As of Feb 2023, this was just released into early access, so I expect more improvements over time.
If you have a powerful enough system, this game works rather well in Proton.
This is a taxing game for the system i was using. It looks to get the performance level I would expect given the hardware I was using. I noticed issues connecting to lobbies on older (4.x?) versions of proton, but it's been stable with Proton 6.3-8.
It may be a bit harder to see ships due to screen size, but good performance
Set Dpad to a radial menu that had three stopwatch settings and a clear stopwatch for the 4th reset stopwatch function. Set A,B,X,Y to C,G,ESC key , F so that I had access to the flashlight and charts. I set the left trackpad push to the shift key to control both engines.
This game is very playable, if a little harder to play on the small screen. Despite no official support, Wolfpack runs great on the Steam deck. You will need to bind some keys, the C key at a minimum. Performance was no problem.
It worked rather well. I spent some time the controller configuration, and it's not quite done, but the software works well.
I took the left touchpad and created a radial button with virtual buttons to allow me to hit keys like F1,F2 (throttle). I am still fiddling with the left joystick because I tend to mess up the throttle when using the rudder.
When docked, I had trouble with an extra controller that was hooked up to the dock.
Very infrequent crashes, usually when I'm changing the controller configuration
