I played 35 hours and the game runs well, especially with the FORTSU (Fall of the Rising Sun) mod (haven't played much without it).
I saw black borders upon installation of FOTRSU 1.7p3 mod. Repointed to Proton 7.0-1, seems to launch fine now after changing the resolution and restarting the game. May be an issue with using the mod and not a proton issue per se.
To run that mod, I simply had to use 7z (I had problems unpacking this with Ark or other GUI programs) to unpack the mod into the "MODS" folder, then use JSGME.exe (with the package) in the main game directory to enable the mod (ran that with wine). I hit a few errors after enabling the mod which were related to a bad unpack of the mod files, and once I did this with the 7z command-line utility, the mod install went well. Note, the issues are not specifically related to the game under proton and I haven't had problems with proton running this game.
OK Technically I got this game to work... but my work around will only work for me!
OK Technically I got this game to work... but my work around will only work for me because I'm probably one of like 9 people on earth with a boxed copy of SH4 and SH4 Uboat Missions on a Disk I burned from some defunct not Steam service I purchased the game from over a decade ago. I ended up installing my OG copy in Lutris copying over the .exe from it an replacing the one in the steam folder to get it to work. Steam version kept throwing up: "Steam error application load error 2:0000065558" Which turns out is a Steam Issue that happens on WIndows computers as well with this game... I tried to do the windows work around but that didn't work on Linux. Using the cracked .exe worked for version 1.3 (I.E. Not Uboat Missions) but nobody bothered to crack version 1.5 (Uboat Missions) So that's why I had to install the entire game via lutris off the DVD... Ubisoft should really release the source code for this game as open source. Clearly they don't care to maintain it... and the work around I had to pull is untenable for any normal person to accomplish....This game is painfully close to being completely lost to binary rotbin of history. Please Save it!
Run smooth, out of the box.
Runs perfectly
Game runs just fine out of the box.
Worked fine out of the box.
Runs Smoothly, no issues at all. No mods were tested
As with the main game, this addon won't start. Steam changes to running for a couple of seconds, but then the game just crashes. No warning, no error message, no hint, nothing.
