Works out of the box. Amazing game, top 10 best for sure. Amazing perf on Linux, better than Windows. I was able to run on max graphics.
I had no issues at all with this game, unlike on Windows where some levels would perform worse compared to others. Of course there are some minor bugs but thats just the Boneworks Jank, not related to Proton. Enjoy exploring MythOS City!

PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 gamemoderun %command%
When launching, the game was only being rendered to my left eye while the right eye was still showing the SteamVR area, using the launch options fixed this
Some slowdowns but that is most likely due to my hardware, runs much better than if it was running on Windows natively

After a little proton config, this runs fantastic. Performance seems to be improved running in Linux vs. running in Windows.
PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 gamemoderun %command%
Full screen seems to be a little buggy when running dual monitors. Issue goes away with only a single one.
As of writing, the default proton options seem to be hit or miss. I tested this with an HTC VIVE (2016) and a Valve Index.

Ran perfectly with no tinkering, honestly kind of felt smoother than Windows but I could just be imagining that.
For some reason my controller vibration was set to 0% at first, idk how that happened. It's just an option in settings so not much to worry about.

PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 gamemoderun %command%
Overall a very enjoyable experience. Tested on a Valve Index.

Runs out of the box with proton for me.
Maybe it is a issue with headset, but I had to stream it to my airpods.
I have an 3060 ti, Windows gave me more fps. Was still playable though, cant complain.
When starting a level, it freezes for 2 or so seconds.
My hand got stuck in the final ladder, but probably a general bug.
gamemoderun %command%
No apparent issues; Seems to play exactly like it did for me on Windows. Maxed out settings.
gamemoderun %command%
the red vignetting when you get shot flickers (Likely a gpu driver problem but not sure)
slower then windows but entirely playable
To get this game up and running on Nvidia you need to:
- Opt into the steamVR latest beta
- Use gamemode on BOTH SteamVR and Boneworks (gamemoderun %command%)
- Disable LinuxVulkanAsync in SteamVR (GOL has a guide)
- Lower texture resolution and other settings before getting to Streets (the first real level)
- Use either Proton Experimental or GE 7-22 (You shouldnt need Proton 5.13)
Works perfectly out of the box.
a great experience out-of the box
very minor visual glitches just after load screens
plays great with an Index headset and controllers under proton
gamemoderun %command%
After getting to the Streets level I also experience the 1-2FPS gameplay. It appears to be something loaded into memory as the main menu which ran just fine before will now be just as laggy if you quit out of that level, it carries the bug back. If you load straight into the zombies mode it's fine but I would like to play the campaign again.
Game crashes to Unity crash/bug reporter on every Proton Version newer than 5.13 including GE's custom versions.
If you can, please fix the slowness. Thanks and much love.
Can't seem to run the first level after the museum
FPS drops to single digits upon exiting the museum, then SteamVR crashes moments after
SteamVR crashes a few seconds into the first level after the museum
Not sure why I have to roll back Proton versions when newer seems to be working for others.
Works surprisingly well
Runs at similar performance to running it with windows without any tweaks neccesary
Good FPS, but I can't enter the main area (after you set your size)
Works right away with Index.
After hooking up my Index it ran without any tinkering. Having a lot of fun.
Several stuttering issues with my old i7 4790K (OC 4,6 GHz). Upgrade to a 5800x recently and the stuttering disappeared.
From time to time the game won't start. Had to disable my second and third screen. That made it much more stable.
Works great, out of the box.
Some flickers here and there
Slight stuttering when displaying fog or steam, nothing too big though
Had some serious issues seemingly related to latest Proton. Seems to run much more stable with Proton 5.0-10
Great game with a choppy framerate
Slightly choppy framerate, leading to more nausea than many games I've played in Linux VR
If you have solid VR legs, you should be able to plow through the slightly choppy framerate, but I can generally only play for 30 minutes or so before nausea takes stops me.
Some shader problems creating color issues which seem to be fairly common with Proton VR games for me occurred. (like whole areas glowing green)
Can be very laggy if the resolution is not turned down.
This game requires >= Proton 5.0 to be functional

Valve Index controllers not recognized, head movement doubled
moving the head 90 degrees in any direction will make the initial view rotate by 180 degrees, making it initially feel very weird. Additionally movement seems to be doubled too and you are way above the player. However the much bigger problem is that you can't even start the game and are just stuck in the start menu. The Valve Index controllers don't seem to be recognized (tried SteamVR beta and normal) because the arms of the character below you are stretched and bugged into the ground without any movement, so basically you can't even confirm the first popup "only for advanced VR users" because no input is recognized at all and so also not start the game.
Play it on Windows if you are a VR beginner. But if you can stomach occasional frame rate drops and graphical glitches it is playable.
minor artifacts (screen when being shot at)
Definitely slower then on Windows but overall it is playable
Runs perfectly fine at 144hz on Valve Index (with shadows on med and MSAA x2)
Slight hitching in some areas. Turn legacy reprojection on and texture resolution low for decent performance.
Legacy reprojection can be found in: SteamVR Settings -> Applications -> BONEWORKS (in dropdown) -> Reprojection -> [X] Use legacy reprojection mode
PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 %command% prevents the crash mentioned in my previous report.
Turning on legacy reprojection makes the performance much more playable, but game can't be completed.
Switching to legacy reprojection made performance much better. Previously unplayable areas now just have minor hitching.
To change, go to: SteamVR Settings -> Applications -> BONEWORKS (in dropdown) -> Reprojection -> [X] Use legacy reprojection mode
an area in the Central Station level (towards the end of the game) has a crash when you walk in.
playing with full texture resolution might crash when loading a level, especially if you have loaded other levels previously in the session.
Arena can't be unlocked without completing the game, but a crash in one of the levels prevents completion
The game ran without any tweaks.
it just performs like garbage.
laggy reprojection, constant stuttering, frequent freezes.
abysmal performance
my kernel has Valve's Fsync enabled.
Low framerates after getting through tutorial
Open areas tend to pin the GPU (or, at least, not use the CPU fully)
If lag lowers framerate below ~5 FPS, the game gives up and crashes
Opening steam overlay early after opening the game causes no issues, but opening it an hour in causes lag then crash.
Major problems in open areas.
Game became unplayable after leaving the museum and entering the sewer. FPS dropped to below ~7.
Problems were solved by running a windows VM and passing through the GPU and Headset. Works flawlessly in this setup, thus I conclude it is linux related.

I didn't encounter any bugs I would attribute to the game running on Linux in the 12 hours it took me to complete the campaign.
Campaign and Sandbox mode work. I haven't tested Arena mode yet, but I honestly don't have a reason to expect problems there.
Flawless
Advanced VR gameplay mechanics playable on linux via proton
970 is a bit underpowered for the game. setting shadows to low and turning off antialiasing results in a useable performance
Sometimes the game does not render in the HMD. Restarting SteamVR and the game fixes the issue.
