DXVK_ASYNC=1
Disabled Steam inputs
Object pop-ins
Stuttering when chosen wrong Proton version and wrong graphic settings
Hop
TL;DR
- Proton version 8.0 or GE-Proton8
- High graphic settings profile
- Windows fullscreen
DXVK_ASYNC=1
- allow tearing
- half rate shading
- eventually disable Steam inputs when issue with controller

Hob runs quite well, when you're okay with occasionally drops to 30 FPS or sometimes even below that. There are quite a few things you can do, to get it running at 60 FPS...mostly.
Foremost, and most important, is to choose the right Proton version. Version 9 apparently has some changes, Runic Game's custom engine really doesn't like. So, choose anything version 8, either Valve's Proton 8.0 or even better GE-Proton8, whatever their latest respective version is. However, with the GE-Proton, I had to disable Steam inputs, otherwise, it wouldn't detect my controller.
Furthermore, the graphic settings matter. Launch the game with its launcher and choose the high profile. I played at 1080p. Also, use the windowed fullscreen, the exclusive fullscreen seemed to have a negative influence on performance.
Last but not least, there are little optimization you can do. The start argument DXVK_ASYNC=1
reduces the load a little. I'm not sure if it did anything, but I also created a Performance game profile in the QAM and allowed tearing and enabled half rate shading.

When there are no save files (before starting a new game for the first time) a gamepad doesn't work in the main menu, but starts working as soon as you start a new game. Then the problem doesn't appear again.
The game is pretty buggy itself, a lot of bugs appear on Windows, but I don't know whether the gamepad issue happens there too.
Crash in the first cutscene.

It works... as long as it works. But it's a really tough time if it's a 50% chance of the game crashing when playing even a minor cutscene.
FPS may drop heavily from 144+ to <5 during cutscences independently from graphical settings until restart. Often results in a crash.
Crashes very often during cutscenes.

Was funny
I really enjoyed it.

Installed the game through heroic games launcher and tried with several proton versions but it didn't start

It's not launch

PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%
is seems that gamma jumps from bright to dark every 2-3 minutes
cannot launch game in the fullscreen, only in exclusive
around 50fps in the main menu, in the game fps seems fine
i somehow get to choose (in hob launcher) Gtx 470(i have rtx 3050) without it i was getting vc runtime error

Runs beautifully. No tweaks needed.
Crashed once in about 3 hours of play. Better than Windows which crashed every 15 minutes or so.
The crashes are a known issue and since Runic is long gone they will never be fixed. Monitor selection works better than in windows and the game itself is more stable than in windows. In Linux I am getting more than 120fps reported ( though I only see 60 because of my monitor ) in Windows the reported FPS was about 75. Arguably linux performance for this game is better than in windows and the game is more stable in Linux than in windows. Bought on a Steam Sale for £3.74 BARGAIN for such a pretty and enjoyable game.
Running very smooth at 40FPS/40Hz. TDP set between 67 to give a little bit of overhead and GPU Clock locked to 800MHz.
Deck discharges at 10.412W.
In the open world are some FPS drops to 30ish when there are lots of things going on but on the underground areas is locked 40.
Graphics look awesome in relation to the Switch version, which is a blurry mess.
Not much thinkering needed to be honest. When Lauching the game, you need to select the "No Laucher" option and the game runs pretty well off the box. 2hrs of playtime without bugs or anything else.
I tried different proton versions. including experimental and GE.
40fps at 40hz
after extended play some textures were sometimes unrendered including 3D game assets as well as 2D map textures in the map screen. this was solved by restarting the game.
after extended play the game would begin to run slower. this was solved by restarting the game
After extended play i found the game had a greater and greater chance of crashing
for smoothest gameplay experience it is suggested to limit uninterupted play time to less than an hour at a time.
DXVK_ASYNC=1
Reduced resolution to 960x600.
With default Proton, the game ran but with some minor stuttering, texture popping, and some black screen flashes. Switching to ProtonGE with DXVK_ASYNC=1 eliminated all these problems. I did both at once so it's possible DXVK_ASYNC=1 is not necessary.
Plays mostly perfectly. Haven't encountered any sound or visual issues (note: version 3.2) 2 minor crashes in roughly 3 hours of playtime.
lowered the graphics
screen flickers to black at times
FPS drops (that can reach to 20 fps)
good game but not optimized for the steam deck
downgraded the graphicsettings

Crash on Line 45 in OgreMain.dll
Starting up to install vcredist crashes with the above error. Never gets past step 1 of 4 setup.

The game is playable
Sometimes the textures glitch
The game crashed a few times on my whole playthrough
Graphical glitches and random crashes aside, the game is very playable and an enjoyable one at that.
Game is definitely playable but suffers from some very annoying visual bugs, mainly during cutscenes however so it's not too distracting.
Game has crashed twice seemingly randomly during my in 100 minutes of play.
Problems aside, this game runs pretty well. I've had some fun with it and didn't really get annoyed by it enough to issue a refund.
Sometimes textures like to pop in or out, and the map can stop displaying correctly after playing for too long
Crashes after a few hours of play, sometimes even randomly during key moments of the game but nothing that would really annoy you long-term.

6.21-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
- Some very quick black flashes (for one or a few frames, around two times per hour of gameplay).
- Sometimes the map was partially broken, containing black spots (happened 2 times, solved by closing and re-opening the map).
Just crashed for the first time after 8.5 hours of gameplay.
For a split second sometimes the textures just disappear and are all black, but it's pretty rare.
For some reason the launcher defaults to German as the language, despite me selecting a different language each time.

Best game I played all year, its only real problem is I couldn't sink another 15 hours on it.
I do remember a very quick problem with a texture or a model not loading, but this happened about twice.
The games runs REALLY, REALLY well on a GTX 660, with the exception of one polygon heavy area and a huge cliff that I suspect was just two maps loading together. Also, the devs had a brilliant idea of putting a huge overworld you barely see, but loads anyway, right on the final boss and that tanked the performance.
I know my hardware isn't making any quantum simulations for the Pentagon, but given the minimum requirements to be a gtx 500, I was very surprised by the contrast of perfectly smooth to begging for mercy. Can't imagine someone on minimum requirements playing it well on those parts, but only those parts.
Game crashed twice, one in the beginning (cutscene 12 min in), and another at 12 hours in. Never after that.
I cannot overstate how good this game is on a controller, even a generic ps3 one.
Crashes but is still playable, played with a DS3 controller
At some point the map stopped working and some graphical glitches appeared, a few minutes later the game crashed to desktop. It happened once in about 3h but there are frequent save points.
Game was definitely playable, but around the 2.5h mark the loading screen began to show wrong textures, the map couldn't find it's textures and sometimes even whole sections of the map became invisible. relaunching the game fixed it for another hour of playtime
Finished game with minor issues
Sometimes materials / terrain flickers
Might not be wine related. Seems like there is a leak when opening and closing map multiple times

sometimes there's a flickering
crashed like 6 or 7 times during my playthrough but there are a lot of savepoints
nothing tinkered, I only used 5.0-9 instead of the latest proton version but with steam play review you can't choose the proton version
Overall a good experience. The game performance may indeed degrade over time, but I have not thoroughly tested this.
The game will sometimes flicker, shadows will be too dark/light, or some assets will briefly disappear (e.g. bushes). It's not significant enough to disrupt normal game-play.

Proton-5.9-GE-3-ST GloriousEggroll
Proton-5.9-GE-3-ST
Screen would flicker black every once in a while but it only happened a few times and it was barely noticeable

This works out of the box without any issue.
Certain textures flicker
Superb out-of-the-box experience. Literally install, then press play.

Seems to run just fine, too bad my poor hardware couldn't actually play the game.
Is able to start running after adding PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command% to the launch options in the game properties.

Some imperfections, but certainly enjoyable
Occasional flickering
Becomes a bit sluggish after extended run time. Restarting the game helps.
Crashed once during credits at the beginning of the game
Such a beautiful game, seems to work perfectly out of the box. No graphics slow downs or glitches that I have seen.

Works nice with wine 3d. Colors are darker then on windows, but I like it, it's more atmospheric.

Game ran perfectly except from one part. There was an elevator (which was obligatory) where once changing scenes the game wasn't able to load the next one.
I moved to windows to use the elevator, saved and went back, from then on I had no other issues.
