Black screen, attempts to go fullscreen, then crashes.
I had to run the game once in a wine version of steam, to generate some DRM files. Windows would also presumably have the same effect. After that first run, proton will work perfectly.
I am the same reporter that had issues with killing enemies. That is no longer the case. The game works perfectly in every technical way in the last several versions of proton. Except for the DRM issues on your first start, which is what everyone else is experiencing. All you have to do is run it once in wine or windows to get around that issue.
I had to ignore some error messages to start, but otherwise worked perfectly.
I had to launch with -windowed (a guess) because fullscreen had resolution issues that prevented me from even seeing the menus. Windowed mode worked fine. I could only avoid issues by going fullscreen at specifically native resolution (1440p in my case). I don't know if this was due to have multiple monitors or what.
Didn't load, no visible feedback or error message.
I tried proton 7, experimental, hotfix, and GE.
I copied the EAC dlls from Paladins into this game's folder, which allowed it run. It seems flawless. I didn't even actually finish downloading Paladins. The binaries and dlls are the first to download. So it was a pretty quick solution.
I was able to join an online lobby and everything seemed to work.
I did lose my windows progress (coins and unlocks), but that may just be because it's a fresh install. My steam cloud sync had errors.
The game installed and loaded without problems. I notice no performance issues or lighting glitches. The mouse (and controller?) seemed stuck constantly twirling or completely nonfunctional. I had to alt-tab out and back in, which restores aiming. Using alt to run seemed to break it again. So I remapped that. The opening cinematic and in-game screens in the first level (interval 1) are gray. I assume videos aren't playing and, amusingly, characters will point at the nonfunctional screens or try to convey mission goals. In-game TVs do seem to work in later levels, but they might be simpler animations.
I added "PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 %command%" to the launch options, based on experience with Far Cry 2. I had a crash on start without using that option.
I was not able to go fullscreen. I only get a tiny window. Trying to change settings...only made the window tinier.
Game started and played with fine performance after zero tweaks. My xbox one controller didn't work in wireless/bluetooth mode, but did work when plugged in. Otherwise I noticed nothing wrong.
Even if you ignore the start-up errors, only shows a black screen.
I ignored errors that appeared on start up and it ran, but only with a black screen.
After a very recent nvidia update (3/21) and adding DXVK 1.0.1 dlls to the install folder, I was able to play flawlessly for over an hour, with High settings and good performance. In my first attempt I ran directly from Steam with no tweaks. In that state, I experienced several crashes in the first few minutes of cutscenes and never quite made it to gameplay. So having the freshest updates seems necessary.
Had to ignore errors to start. Sound and input seem to be working, but just a black screen.
At first start, there is a TAGES (some sort of DRM) installer which fails or complains about not being an administrator. I tried some no-CD cracks (from Steam forums), which seem to resolve that DRM issue. But it still fails to load with inexplicable module errors. "unknown module" or "module init error"
