Had to play on X11 rather than Wayland.
Game does not open a window on Wayland/Sway. Had to swap to X11.
This was previously completely unplayable. it has been ported to a new engine and wor perfectly now.

No major issues from ~30 minutes of gameplay

No Linux exclusive issues other than Wine CFG adjustments to correctly fullscreen aspect ratio.
Wine CFG change needed to run the game at the correct aspect ration in fullscreen
To fix the issueswith the game not correctly sizing to fullscreen regardless of selected option in-game:
Open winecfg, either by running WINEPREFIX=[Steam directory]/steamapps/compatdata/350070/pfx winecfg, or using protontricks 350070 winecfg.
Untick all Window settings under the Graphics tab (Allow window manager to decorate/control and Emulate a virtual Desktop). Game will not start if Emulate a virtual desktop is checked
Runs perfectly without any issues after tweaks. Playing on a keyboard.
- run
protontricks 350070 winecfg
in console - go to graphics tab
- tick "Emulate a virtual desktop" and set your resolution
- enable d-pad only mode
Spams up input without d-pad only mode.
Game must first be launched in desktop mode to disable fullscreen before it is playable in gaming mode. Requires additional ingame settings and steam controller settings changes for proper controller support.
Environmental Station Alpha works on the Steam Deck, but requires changing some settings in desktop mode first. Once the Steam logo appears in the task manager, You can use the touchpads to launch the game, or you can hook up an external keyboard/mouse temporarily.

For best results, change the settings in this exact order:
D-Pad Only: On (This actually makes it stick only, but stops the infinite scrolling up bug with gamepad controls.)
Controls: Gamepad
Fullscreen: OFF
|
Close game then swap to Gaming mode. Then we make the dpad usable below.
Steam controller settings for ESa
D-Pad behavior: Joystick
Haptics: Off

winecfg tweaks are needed to get fullscreen to work properly.
This can be fixed by using winecfg to tweak the prefix. You uncheck both "Allow the window manager to decorate the windows" and "Allow the window manager to control the windows" in winecfg. Once that is done, the fullscreen works, the fullscreen window is undecorated, and the game is in its correct aspect ratio.
For gamepad support, you set the game to take keyboard input, and you use a gamepad to keyboard remapper (e.g. Antimicro).

To get fullscreen to work, I had to enable virtual desktop:
Open winecfg, either by running
WINEPREFIX=[Steam directory]/steamapps/compatdata/350070/pfx winecfg
,
or using protontricks 350070 winecfg
.
Then go to the graphics tab, tick "Emulate a virtual desktop" and set the resolution to your desktop resolution (1920x1080 for me).
Game thinks I'm constantly pressing up. Fixed by enabling DPAD-only mode in the options menu, but now I can only use the analog stick. My fix is, to use a controller that can map the DPAD to the joystick (8bitdo M30), but you could also use Steam's controller mapping and map the controller to the keyboard.

It's fine in windowed mode, scaling set to 5X but I wish I could either have more scaling options or ideally that fullscreen would work.
Fullscreen not working properly in GNOME (3.36). Scaling is wrong. Tried suggested workaround which work in other DE but still produces improper scaling in GNOME.
Had to enable "D-pad only". This is with a DS4 controller.
Shows a black window unless PROTON_USE_WINED3D is set.
If the game is set to fullscreen, there is still border from the compositor and the aspect ratio isn't kept. You have to "unmaximize" the window manually when switching from fullscreen to windowed mode, otherwise the window will only show the top left corner of the game area. Other than that, the game is perfectly playable in windowed mode, although I wish there was an option for higher scaling.
I had to enable "D-pad only" option in the config to prevent constant "Up" input with a controller.

With Xbox controller, to make the game playable with dpad instead of analogue stick, use xboxdrv with the --dpad-only option. Full screen mode cuts off the health bar at the bottom of the screen but window mode works perfectly. Does not work with Proton 4.11-1 but 4.2-9 works fine.

To get proper fullscreen: first set fullscreen in the game options. This will resize the window to the desktop resolution, but the window will still be decorated. Then use your window manager fullscreen keyboard shortcut to get proper fullscreen. If you don't do it in this order, the image will be stretched instead of having the proper aspect ratio.
To get controller working: first set dpad only in the game options. Then activate the controller. Otherwise, there is a permanent "up" input. Note that this does not let you play with the dpad, but only with the stick (hence silver rating instead of gold). This is with an Xbox One controller.

There is no proper fullscreen. It either stretches the aspect ratio to fill horizontally, or it has the proper aspect ratio but in a window the resolution of the desktop. This window can not be undecorated, and as such it is slightly too large, preventing to see the health bar at the bottom of the screen, it spills out of the monitor. Playing in windowed is fine but the game resolution is quite small, even with the x5 scaling.

As reported by other users, full screen mode doesn't work and it may be necessary to enable the D-pad only option to prevent upward drift. Works fine otherwise.

Crashes on 3.16 branch

Full screen only produces maximized window. If not activated, the mouse clicks in menus are registered in the wrong spots, though. Also, activating gamepad results in constant "up" movement (XBOX 360 pad). In maximized window with only keyboard active seems to work ok.

It works, although Full-screen just maximizes the window, stretching the content horizontally

Joypad must be set to "D-Pad only" for it to work properly without unintentional directional input, but D-pad doesn't work with it set up this way (DualShock 3)
