Ran perfectly. I got all the achievements on Deck.
Complex first person puzzler, works with controller, but as of Proton 9.0 requires no special changes.
Steam does not default to a compatibility layer for this game, so one must be enabled manually. The Proton Github bug report is still outstanding after many years.
Battery wattage 10 for stable 60fps
Runs great on Deck, Controls good on Deck
Switched to Keyboard and mouse for better control.
Fully Playable at Native Resolution
No issues whatsoever. An excellent experience.
Full play-through with mouse and keyboard
Game runs great on the recommended proton Version with no degredation.
ran the game, didn't work, so i installed vcrun2008 and it still doesn't work
Basically perfect; nothing out of the ordinary.
This game has some performance troubles on lower-end systems like mine, which is weird because this game is from 2012. It's most likely to be an Intel driver issue.
I just installed it and it works fine. I used Proton 6.3-2
A typical gamer wouldn't enjoy this because it isn't playable out of the box (because of black textures).
After installing vcrun2008 with protontricks gui I got rid of black textures and the game is fully playable now.
Valve, pls fix
Game slows down a bit on loading screens, besides that everything runs fine
I needed to install vcrun2008 due to the bug where I was getting black textures.
I get some pretty significant choppy/stutter issues when between levels.
Installed vcrun2008 using protontricks. Tested on my Samsung TV using the SteamLink and it works fine, controller is also supported.
Use protontricks to install vcrun2008. In Fedora:
pip3 install --user protontricks
~/.local/bin/protontricks 200010 vcrun2008
Game starts in a background window and must be manually raised quickly before going fullscreen.
- I used a tool called protontricks which is a wrapper for running wintricks on Proton prefixes. You could also use standard winetricks by setting your WINE prefix and running winetricks on it.
- If using protontricks, select Quantum Conundrum from the dropdown if using
protontricks --gui
, otherwise open winetricks for the game using it's AppID - Use winetricks to install
vcrun2008
by going to "Install a Windows DLL or Component" and scrolling down until you find the appropriate winetrick.
Doing this will fix the issue with missing textures for the game.
- Tested with Steam Controller
- Tested with Valve ACO driver
- Tested with CPU governor set to "Performance", you can do this by using Feral GameMode
Using protontricks to install vcrun2008 fixed the lighting issues. A little laggy, but nothing unplayable so far.
As with other users, I had a lot of black textures until I installed vcrun2008. After that it worked perfectly fine.
As others mentioned, it runs perfectly after installing vcrun2008.
- Install protontricks: $ pip install --user protontricks
- Install vcrun2008: $ protontricks 200010 vcrun2008
Works well after installing vcrun2008 (thanks to the other reporters for the hint!)
Had to install vcrun2008 to fix the black textures problem. I recommend using Protontricks to do this, or following the method others have mentioned. Other than that, everything worked great. A full 60fps except on loading screens where it dipped to 12fps. Perfectly playable.
Experienced the same black texture rendering issue, which made the game initially unplayable. Was resolved upon installing vcrun2008 to the correct wine prefix using winetricks/protontricks.
Tried installing vcrun2008 black textures are still everywhere, makes the game unplayable
As suggested by a previous review: Set WINEPREFIX=~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/200010/pfx to run winetricks for the correct prefix. In winetricks, install vcrun2008. This fixed the black textures. I came across no further issues.
Install vcrun2008 using winetricks for the WINEPREFIX=~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/200010/pfx and the building from the inside lights up normally. The only downside is the "Download Content." The mouse pointer does not show up when the Steam browser opens up. So if you want to add DLC, that must be done outside the game.
Completely black rendered textures make the game unplayable.
Unplayable due to black textures for walls and floors. Runs at a relatively stable 60fps, has some framedrops when switching between dimensions initially (dropped to about 53fps from 60fps for me), but this issue could be present on Windows. Subsequent dimension switches were fine. Steam Controller works. If the texture issues ever get fixed, this game would be perfectly playable.
The important objects are visible fine, but the walls, floor and ceiling are completely black. It is very hard to impossible to find your way around between rooms.
Game launches fine but once you get into the playable section there are huge areas of pure black. As others have mentioned this is probably some form of lighting bug. Since the game is about navigating a 3D space and solving puzzles this makes it basically unplayable to me.
Considerable graphical artifacts
All general ilumination is broken, although the effect lighting works.
FPS wise, it's playable, but the darkness is a show stopper. This might be related to the brightness setting not doing anything. *not sure how it compares to Windows due to using my laptop instead of desktop
Lots of dark areas because of a lighting error.
Lighting errors. Many areas were dark/black that should not have been. Otherwise playable.
Played through intro, no issues
