It works fine, but low fps
I can get at least 30 fps
Works exactly like it would on Windows.
No significant issues
The current stable version works out of the box for me (and has done for over a year and ~250 hours of play). The only issue is that the game now hangs after saving (hadn't used to) but saves themself are not affected. Performance is ok not brilliant but can be improved by reducing graphical settings. Quite long load times even with SSD drive.
Note: I tried the current alpha version but performance was very poor so went back to the stable EA release.
I wanted to like it but didn't.
Must of the text was very small - there is an option to change text size but it only worked on some of the text.
I had high hopes for this game but unfortuantely I didn't like it. IMO it worked poorly on the Steam Deck.
They frame rate (on my new SD OLED!) was around 25 FPS until I turned off shadows, which then went up to around 30 FPS.
I also found the controls clunky - implementation of radio-dials would have made the UI much better.
For me the biggest issue was gameplay though. The building in particular was awful - and this was actually one of the reasons I bought the game. The snapping wasn't great and whilst it worked, there were too many snap points so I ended up often not connecting walls or floors together properly. Something this basic should have been simplier.
Anyway, for me, it's just not quite ready for a SD release (or in fact any platform using a controller).
Straight forward, no tinkering installation and play time!
Most recent update fixed massive performance issues, however I would suggest to turn off shadows or reduced them since is a performance hit.
LD_PRELOAD=$LD_PRELOAD:/usr/\$LIB/libgamemodeauto.so.0 %command%
Around 15 to 18fps, no matter what settings are used.
Before the Seamless World Update the game ran smooth in the 1st world. But all the other worlds also had quite low fps depending on hardware (around 25fps). I tested all Proton versions i have installed, including GE and Experimental. Seems to make no difference.
Game ran quite functional without any significant issue
Battery drains pretty fast, These steps are applied to achieve 1.5 hrs gameplay at full battery: Lowest resolution, lowest view distance, no v-sync, 30fps lock, no lighting effecf, no shadow
Texts are really small
Cannot open the virtual keyboard while ingame
Other than text is extremely small to read and battery drain. The game ran quite functional without any issue. You might want to turn dow all the settings to get 1.5 hours of gameplay at full battery.

Games runs great. I also ran the dedicated server just fine.
Despite my hardware FPS on some islands will have around 20-30 FPS, while others run just fine. I've played with every graphic setting and nothing made a difference except "show footprints" setting. I'm guessing it's a game engine issue cause I see many windows user also complaining about really low fps with very high end hardware.
Multiplayer uses a host-tether system at the moment, so people cannot explore different islands(instances) seperately. The devs have mentioned there is a patch sometime coming in 2022 to change this.
Works perfectly with no tweaks. Also connected to a dedicated server with no problems.
other than the fps problem, it can be ignored on some islands/levels and it wasnt that much of an annoyance
idk if its because the game is in early access but i tend to get some low fps around here and there
Very low fps
Very bad framerate, around 15fps, on the first island after starting island.
Works out of the box
i don't know its a issue with wine related or its a game bug sometimes if the game loading the first time the new world you have graphical lags but than its all fine so don't worry so much about this fact ^^
Worked out of the box, 10+ hours not a single CTD
Lags sometimes, but it's probably more an optimization issue than a proton related problem (I don't have a window partition to verify that).
It works Perfectly out of the Box!
Mouse was very slow, but can be changed later if needed.
Single player works perfect, didn't try multiplayer
Played for about half an hour and didn't encounter anything major. Game is still early access, but I got a solid 1080p60 with small drops down to 45fps when the game was autosaving (which is to be expected from an early access game). Overall, worked perfectly fine!
When I attempted to host multiplayer I was met with an infinite loading screen. Looking at ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1307550/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/LocalLow/PocketPair/Craftopia/Player.log
there was an error saying nslookup
could not be found.
This led me to install nslookup.exe
in the wineprefix. The main issue is that modern versions of nslookup failed in wine with an error unimplemented function DNSAPI.dll.DnsQueryConfigAllocEx
. Eventually I found that ftp://ftp.manet.nu/pub/bind/windows/BIND9.2.7.zip
on ftp://ftp.manet.nu/pub/bind/windows/ seemed to work (I didn't try any more up to date versions.
Installing this version involved copying libdns.dll
, libeay32.dll
, libisc.dll
, and nslookup.exe
to ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1307550/pfx/drive_c/windows/system32
After that, I was able to get past the infinite loading.
Performance was best when I forced fullscreen through window manager as opposed to through the game.
General slowness on 4k. With 1080 framerate is generally around 60
Proton-5.11-GE-3-MF GloriousEggroll
Works fine, with most issues likely due to the game being early in development
Some texture mishaps happened during the opening area. I haven't played too terribly long in the game itself, though, so I don't know if it'll repeat in there or if it was an isolated incident exclusive to cutscenes or something.
Got a steady 60 FPS in the opening areas, but only 15-20 FPS on the main island.
Couldn't get more than ~24 fps
I tried hosting a multiplayer game, but it got stuck in an infinite loading screen. It looks like some people are getting this bug on windows though, so it might not be proton's fault.
It's certainly playable, but don't expect more than 30 FPS on the first island.
Average 24 FPS
Works out of the box. Definitely needs some optimization by the devs, but it's definitely playable.
Sometimes the ground will flicker. Nothing seems to fix it besides either rebooting the system or changing from RADV to AMDVLK.
FPS is 30-50 FPS and stutters fairly regularly
Proton-5.9-GE-5-ST
Jugable pero le falta optimizacion de parte del desarrollador
El juego tiende a relantizarse luego de pasar de un mapa a otro.
Langsam
In the current state only works in singleplayer. If you want to play co-op only or want better performance you should wait.
Game is really demanding, but that's not a Linux exclusive problem. I have around 35-40 FPS in 1440p.
Worked perfectly out of the box. FPS seems decent.
good for anime and survival genre fans
fps seems to be locked to 40, game feels unoptimised for a unity game (other games of the same engine run fine)
Low fps (stuck at 20)
Game starts up fine and I can get 60 fps during main screen, character creation and tutorial. But once I arrive at the first island, the fps will drop and stuck at 20.
I've tried the game on Windows 10 and it runs flawlessly.
I tested the game with latest proton and proton-ge. Both have the same result.
