Works perfectly out of the box (played the whole game)
Graphic settings low and limiting gpu, fps and battery at varying levels the first scene was unplayable at 20 fps fluctauting drastically
15-25 fps at lowest settings
:( terrible and unplayable on deck
Slow but playable
In some scenes CPU limited to 1440p@40fps or 720p@45fps at max settings for no apparent reason.
Reproducable crashes with dx12. No crashes with dx11.
While the game itself runs flawless, there are severe performance problems. If the game were something different than a really slow walking simulator, i would have considered it unplayable.
Sometimes just having a mirror in view cuts the framerate in half. Only play if you have extreme single core performance (Ryzen 3000 or better), and are ok with <50FPS.
Completed whole game on linux, no issues.
Hardware demanding game on highest settings, but this is OS independent.
Low FPS in split screen sequences, but still playable
Set refresh rate to 40 Hz and activate half rate shading to improve battery performance.
Framerate drops to around 15 FPS in split screen sequences, even on lowest settings. In non split screen sequences it will mostly hit 30 FPS.
I activated the 40 Hz refresh rate limit and half rate shading in Steam. In the game I set all settings to lowest, activated FSR and a 30 FPS limit. Game is well playable in regular sequences (around 30 FPS), ok'ish playable in split screen sequences (around 15 FPS).
Fully playable out of the box. I used DirectX 11, because DirectX 12 would cause a slight stutter every other second.
During certain split-screen scenes, the image would occasionally stutter.
Completed game on Proton with DX11, some minor issues
Game was fully playable including videos out of the box. However In the later half of the game experienced some GPU driver crashes. Perhaps running out of VRAM or something, dropping resolution or enabling FSR on lower setting seemed to solve/improve stability. Game is generally very demanding during the "split screen" sections, and especially in some of the scenes later in the game.
Game runs fine
Used DX11
Proton-7.0rc3-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Proton-7.0rc3-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
using DX12 there were some random crashes, using DX11 the game seems to be more stable.
After starting the game shows a "pure virtual function being called while application was running" which can be moved aside(closing the window causes the game to exit)
using default Proton cutscenes don't play, which can be fixed using Proton GE.
Could run okay with some fixes
Extremely slow (~18 FPS instead of 60+)
Videos aren't playing and would require a workaround to be seen.
Any player can finish the game, just need to install the Media Foundation. When is installed, everything will work fine.
During the game, I faced 4 times where the Game was completely slow. The simple fix was to restart. So, 4 times in 10 hours of gameplay it very acceptable for me. (Even, I think this will happens in Windows too). More details; Some animations and the movies and some very demanding zones (Where the game has forests, rivers, and buildings, and spiritual worlds all in one scene). The rest of the game was completely playable without issues and in a flawless way.
I finished the whole game in 10 hours. The game never finished unexpectedly, I just see some slowness in some videos and very demanding zones, after the restart the slowness was removed. I played with Logitech F710 Controller. I played through the steamlink to streaming the game on my couch. I tried the modern version of Proton but does not work for me. So, I forcing the game to run with the Proton 5.13.6. The game runs without media foundations but the videos can no be played. You need the media foundation to see the videos.
My recommendation is that download the zip file of mf-install. Unzip it and execute the following command in the unzipped folder. Note: The following command is only one line.
PROTON="/home/steam/.steam/steamapps/common/Proton 5.13" WINEPREFIX="/home/steam/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/758730/pfx" ./mf-install.sh -proton
Now you need to force proton 5.13.6
Secondary click on the game title, click on the compatibility tab, click on the checkbox to force a Proton version, Choose Proton 5.13.6 in the dropdown. Click on close.
Run the game
Enjoy
6.1-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Audio will stop working after pressing "Start". This issue persists on WIndows too. Can be fixed by switching between audio output devices in-game.
Aliasing problems with hair textures
Runs with similar performance on Windows.
After sorting out the Media Foundation library issue, the game works perfectly, with average framerate of 80fps at 1440p.
the following command was required for the correct installation of the Media Foundation library:
PROTON=$HOME/.steam/steamapps/common/Proton\ 5.13 WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.steam/steamapps/compatdata/1293160/pfx ./mf-install.sh -proton
Dont play video. If mf-install not work, try this (for example) PROTON="/home/steam/.steam/steamapps/common/Proton 5.0" WINEPREFIX="/home/steam/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/758730/pfx" ./mf-install.sh -proton
proton-tkg-git-6.0.r18 TKGlitch
Manually installed Media Foundation from https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-install
Game runs fine. Had to install the Media Foundation codecs, because the in-game movies refused to play.
Needs MF to play video
Works well, but performance is an issue.
The game works rather well when using Proton 4.13, fails on proton 5.x. However, the game is also unusually slow given my hardware. I don't have the newest rig, but I still think it should be able to provide stable 60 FPS in this game at 1k resolution, which it's not right now. Cutscenes are hard to watch with severe graphical and audio glitches.
Videos don't work, but the game is playable if you skip past where the videos should be.
Uneven framerate
Videos don't play back, but black screen can be skipped with B button.
Minus videos not playing the game looked to play well. Once we figure out how to render the video it'll be very playable.
Videos would not play for cutscenes. I'm not sure what codec or tools were used to create them but it's incompatible at this point. I tried Proton-6.0-GE-1 with no better luck. The video are easily skipped but you miss most the story.
