Runs just fine in Linux. The Steam Deck hardware does struggle a little and you need to set the game graphic settings low.
Text a little small, but still readable.
Some stutters, especially once reaching the factory.
If vaync was enabled, the game would lock up. Disabling vsync in the game settings resolved this.

Played the entire game through Proton. Worked great.
Crashed three times during entire playthrough, only when using fast travel system. Unsure if Proton-specific.
Game runs poorly, but this is not specific to Proton. Runs poorly on Windows as well. If you have an X3D CPU, this will serve as a nice band-aid for the performance problems. I played on high witth Balanced FSR at 3440x1440 and got almost a constant 120fps the entire time. I had a 5900X CPU for the first few hours of gameplay and got horrible FPS drops, down to as much as 57.

Installs and plays out of the box
The game is resource intensive. I noticed my fans working hard, and temperatures on GPU and CPU were in the 60-70C range. Framerates dropped off 60FPS quite regularly - the in game setting to limit them to 30FPS had no effect. However, gameplay was not effected, it played well.

Low settings, 80% scaling with FSR, 60 Hz in game settings and disable Vsync in SD overlay. The game runs at 60fps most of the time

Intel/Nvidia M2000M(~M960): few artifacts;a little sluggish, sound flawless ;
AMD-Ryzen/GTX1650:good graphics, fast, sound flawless ;
AMD FX-8350 /Nvidia RTX2060: Graphics can be maxed out(fast and beautiful), fast, sound flawless ;
Steamdeck: Running with 40fps and defaults (settings text is too small anyway), graphics ok, fast, sound ok
При запуске по умолчанию через Proton 9 игра вылетала после начальных заставок. При запуске через GE-Proton7-55 проблем не было, и игра была пройдена.
Works perfectly fine

Works out of the box
About all I'd say is that I hear my system fans more for this game than any other, but ignoring that it plays just fine with no tinkering.

gamemoderun %command%
Title screen has green bar at the bottom
Runs with an insane amount of stuttering at low framerates, assume its the same on windows from steam reviews
Great game, played through it on PS5, runs the game much better than it does here. Do not recommend unless you can get through the stutters.
Works well with current Proton version
Works out of the box
Performance is about on par with windows (which is to say it's bad, but not necesserily fault of linux)
Game doesn't start

default proton version results in black screen oon launch, but GE works fine
It started working because I switched to Linux-Kernel 6.1 and nvidia-driver 525 with LMDE5. I do not recommend it though, because it can break a lot of other things. With nvidia-driver 470, it wouldn't even launch
PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0 PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 %command%
At 3440x1440, I had to lower graphics to medium and enable balanced DLSS for ~80 FPS. Although the performance issues seem to exist on Windows too
Proton Experimental is needed for the game to run. The launch options I listed was needed for DLSS to work, but the raytracing option was still disabled.
The main menu seems a bit glitched, but nothing else
Performance problem is most likely coming from the base optimization of the game
The game runs nicely, some minor artifact and overall performance issues that most likely impact the Windows version too considering the player feedbacks
Run great now, even with Nvidia GPU

This game wasn't playable a while ago on NVIDIA card. After I updated my Arch kernel and NVIDIA driver it now can
The game is pretty smooth, albeit hardlocking to 60 FPS by the game which is not chanable. I got about 55 - 58 FPS by the Steam performance overlay
A month ago, it would not run (only a black window), but now with everything up to date seems to work just fine.

Slightly less performant than running it on Windows
Considering all the reports on ProtonDB and the still open Issue#6132 on GitHub, I was really surprised and pleased in seeing the game run and perform quite good on Linux too. The only minor issue is a green bar at the bottom of the screen, it is displayed on the main menu only though. Ray Tracing works too!
Tinker Steps/Configuration:
The game doesn't run out of the box, and to be honest I don't really know what got it to work, but here's what I did.
- I'm using the latest versions available for dxvk and vkd3d, respectively v2.0 and v2.8 (this comes from Chaotic AUR)
- I copied the same ENV variables I have for Cyberpunk to make ray tracing work so:
- PROTON_CONFIG=dxr11
- PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1
- PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0
- VKD3D_CONFIG=dxr11
- VKD3D_FEATURE_LEVEL=12_1
- I'm also using GameMode and MangoHud. The latter one though is bugged, it shows the OSD up until the NVIDIA intro, then crashes for some reason
Won't launch at all
It creates the X Window but does not run
Seems to be NVIDIA Issue
AMD seems fine and deck too but on nvidia it does atm not run past a black screen
Game launches to black screen but never reaches menu
The game itself is a good Souls like. But the handheld experience is horrible. Best to play it on a desktop instead.
Low on all graphics settings. 40Hz cap on display refresh rate. Nets me 2 to 2.5 hours of game time.
All text in game is small: stats, item descriptions, menu, etc. Good thing subtitles can be enlarged.
This game is basically unplayable for me. The Steam Deck can technically reach 40FPS or even 60. But frametimes are abismal. This game is a stuttery mess.
Launch version of the game has bugs with regards to progressing quests and achievements. Still waiting on any patch as of the posting of this review.
The unstable frametime is also present in desktop. But at least we can throw as much compute power and an adaptive sync display to overcome it. Too bad. This game seems perfect for a handheld.
Frozen on startup
Attempted with both experimental and proton GE, various launch commands, etc.
Current consensus seems to be that the game functions on AMD, but not on NVIDIA.
The game runs at 30 fps most of the time. I only encountered one area where fps were a bit lower (25 fps). Graphics look nice on steam deck, plays very good 😀
Also tried on my linux desktop, but the game seems to refuse to run on Linux when you have a Nvidia GPU
The game starts and then I only get a black screen. Have not found any workaround for it...
Steel rising works on steam deck with no customization. It runs ok initiall but turn on fsr performance in the advanced graphics options.
Crash at launch

The game sets itself up at low settings but is a battery eater anyway - turn on FSR and performance mode in the game settings and limit to 45fps seems to cut power use a little.
Text is small in some windows, not unreadable, but uncomfortably small.
Reports of black screens are for NVidia GPUs - this game does NOT work on my gaming laptop with an NVidia, but runs nicely on the Deck's AMD.
Crashes on startup.
gamemoderun mangohud %command%
black screen or freezed background at launch
Tried GE-proton7-31 and proton experimental [bleeding edge] arent working either.
