Sudden crashes maybe 4-5 times during 25 hours of play
Used the older Proton version 7 since that was worked fine for me with R;N Elite. Installed the CoZ patch manually (not using the "Polyversal" installer) by using the same proton instance as used by the game itself:
STEAM_COMPAT_CLIENT_INSTALL_PATH=$HOME/.steam/steam STEAM_COMPAT_DATA_PATH=$HOME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1111390 $HOME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Proton\ 7.0/proton run RNDPatch-Installer.exe
Occasionaly crashed on some scene transitions. Switching proton versions or lowering resolution helped to get past problematic scenes, after which I could revert my settings. Save frequently!
Other than broken controller support, its fine
controller support is completely broken, must remap to keyboard
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
WineD3D does not support anti-aliasing, it's lack looks particularly ugly in this game where all backgrounds are hand-drawn.
DXVK does not work with this game due to https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/issues/1318, thus you need to switch to WineD3D using the suggested launch option. This prevents the use of anti-aliasing, which looks very jarring, especially on high-resolution displays.
You must use this specific Proton-GE version, any other will crash at start (regardless of whether you use DXVK or WineD3D).
Occassionally crashes in some scenes, reloading a save a few times eventually lets you progress through the problematic part. It happened <8 times in my playthrough, each time I needed to retry 1-4 times.
Movies do not work, I suggest watching them on Youtube (there are just 6 of them, and only three actually matter, the rest are fun bonus).
CoZ translation patch installs without issues and works fine in-game.
Used Glorious Eggroll Proton 6.5-GE-2
. (newest version did not work).
Installed vcrun2017
via winetricks: WINEPREFIX=[[SteamLibrary]]/steamapps/compatdata/1111390/pfx winetricks vcrun2017
Full screen mode was highly unstable compared to windowed one.
Even when running in windowed mode, game still crashes or the screen becomes entirely black and not responding to any inputs other than Esc
. Have to reload and play if that happens. So I recommend saving constantly. Game crashes in the same places but after few retries (my maximum was 3 times) can get past those unstable parts.
When using wined3d flag, the CG movies did not play. The screen was entirely black. To view CG movies, I had to disable wined3d flag and play in full screen. But then the CG movies page was just a white screen, but can navigate using arrows and play the videos. (The videos play normally in this way)
The game sometimes hangs on exit. Have to close from steam itself.
Sometimes pokecom screen becomes black and stays on the screen even after closing it. Had to save and reload when this happened.
I installed the Committee of Zero patch as well. (So the experience of a person who does not have this patch may vary from mine) However, the game does not support mouse input by default. So to fix these issues and for improved translation, I highly recommend installing the patch.
My recommendation is to install the patch, vcrun2017 and use Glorious Eggroll Proton 6.5-GE-2
(This version worked for me) with PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
launch command and play in windowed mode. The game may crash/hang sometimes but can reload and skip content easily so it is not a huge problem. if you want to watch CG movies, disable wined3d and launch in full screen. The CG movies menu will be a white screen, but it is possible to play the movies using arrow keys. (But I do not recommend playing the game in this mode)
6.5-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
I used protontricks
to install the Committee of Zero patch. More details here.
Antialiasing seems to be missing.
The game and/or the patch won't launch at all without following the previous instructions, or will crash at the very beginning of the first chapter.
The game doesn't seem to close properly, closing it by pressing Close on Steam seems to be required to fully shut it down.
Proton-5.9-GE-8-ST GloriousEggroll
Changing from Fullscreen to Borderless/Windowed seemed to crash sometimes, I couldn't get it to reliably crash though.
Graphics are broken; game crashes after several screens.
The game runs for a while, but with black boxes where on-screen elements should appear. After moving forward through the game for a few minutes, it crashes.
The game does not use mouse input, it is keyboard or controller only. The Steam Gamepad is not properly detected but a standard USB gamepad works.
The game will crash after moving forward a few screens.
As long as you can enjoy a game in windowed mode there are no problems.
Crashes after a little while in fullscreen. Works perfectly fine in windowed mode
Only in fullscreen
Game starts, but does not get to main menu.
As the title states, the game starts up correctly. However, after going through a few logos it crashes before even getting to the main menu.
