Perfectly playable, but has minor text artifacts here and there.
Text is sometimes cut off, displaying just a single letter. The bug is shared across all Source engine games, including CS:GO.
If the game window loses focus, it has a ~30% chance of becoming a uninteractable black screen.
EasyAntiCheat missing
The game will disconnect after ~10 seconds of being in the main menu due to the Linux version of EasyAntiCheat being missing.
Can't host or join lobbies
The base game Apotheon works, so use that instead if you have it
Flawless.
Enabled Invert Fire in the Accessibility option menu.
Gets stuck at loading ~80%
Seems to be unable to communicate with the game servers...?
Flawless.
Queues may take a long time as the game has a very low player count.
Long stutters make the game borderline unplayable.
Open Mic mode doesn't work
Small freezes occour frequently during gameplay
Probably Vulkan shaders compilation?
Adding songs manually to Proton's virtual hard drive is a bit tedious
Works satisfyingly well.
Open Mic mode doesn't work.
Game is slow for the first 10-20 songs due to real-time shader compilation.
Open Mic mode doesn't work, and because of that some game modes are inaccessible.
If your music library is on a different hard drive than your system root, you'll have to specify the following Launch Options:
STEAM_COMPAT_MOUNTS="/path/to/your/mount" %command%
Flawless.
Not a Proton bug, but be careful if connecting to the Ninja Kiwi cloud as the game will basically decide randomly which account (local or cloud) to keep, and will ignore your selection.
Flawless.
I initially felt a bit of lag, but that might have been my internet connection and not proton's fault...
Crashes too often to be enjoyable.
Crashes often.
Fails to connect to Multiplayer every once in a while.
Do not alt-tab, or the game will crash.
Crashes after a while if alt-tabbed
Playing offline might be troublesome.
If offline, saves created while online cannot be loaded.
Controller input is too buggy for the game to be playable.
In controller mode, input is delayed by ~500ms
Controller input is too buggy for the game to be playable.
Controller input is delayed by ~500ms and sometimes does not work as expected.
(Please disregard my previous review, as Dota does not use Proton on Steam Deck.)
Excellent, but has a few graphical glitches.
The "pixel" shader seems to be completely broken.
The game crashed a few times, but it might have been due to the mods I was using.
Flawless.
Multiplayer sometimes desyncs, but it randomly happens on Windows as well, so I doubt it's a Proton problem.
protontricks 359320 -q dotnet472 win7
The launcher displays some weird diagonal lines instead of the background.
The game takes a really long time to launch, but works perfectly after that.
The game WON'T LAUNCH with Proton 5.13, remember to select Proton 5.0 explicitly.
You might need to restart the launcher multiple times before you are actually able to interact with its elements.
Pretty good!
Limited TDP to 3 W.
After using the touch screen, the mouse might slightly get offset while using the controller controls.
Proton-6.16-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
With Proton-GE, everything works perfectly!
Using Proton 6.3 will cause videos to be unable to load, hiding the character select eagle animation and the command list previews.
Save data fix
A recent update moved the save data from %LOCALAPPDATA%/RED
to %LOCALAPPDATA%/GGST
.
Steam didn't appear to move the save data correctly on Linux for some users.
If you suddenly lost your save data, you can restore it by renaming the folder in steamapps/compatdata/1384160/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/
from RED
to GGST
!
Avoid the "L'oro Di Illyria" stage.
Flavour text is very small and may be hard to read.
Game can't hold 60 FPS on the stage L'oro Di Illyria, avoid that to avoid slowdowns.
Game will fail to reconnect to network until the game is restarted if the Deck is put in sleep mode while the game is open.
Performance issues may impact competitive matches.
Performance issues may impact competitive matches.
Avoid right clicking as much as possible.
Right clicking disables mouse input
Avoid Right-clicking, use Shift+click instead.
Right clicking disables input until the window loses and regains focus.
Flawless, but works only if run with the Vulkan renderer.
Alt-tabbing sometimes crashed KDE Plasma with a weird "Bad Window" error.
Flawless.
Completed the game from start to end on Steam Deck, in offline mode.
Almost flawless!
Alt-tab does not always work
The game crashed once, but I'm pretty sure it was because of a problem with my motherboard and not of the game or Proton.
Connecting to an Online Session crashes both the game and Steam.
Some kind of steamapi error, perhaps?
Opting out from the Steam Beta fixed the previously mentioned crash.
The game runs correctly on my machine: the only bug I noticed is that sometimes the levitation particles don't appear. However, while it is simulating the world (not paused), the game runs very slowly, at about 20 FPS. It may be a problem with my CPU, though, as the computer I'm running it on is pretty old.
Game seems to work and launch properly, but I'm unable to click on either Fullscreen or Play on my i3 tiling window manager due to continuous resolution changes in the game engine.
Basically flawless!
Sometimes the mouse warp would not work correctly, but pressing Super immediately fixed it.
The game won't start unless you run:
protontricks 1113000 wmp9 quartz devenum
Audio will crackle unless you set this as launch options:
PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 %command%
I can't start the game anymore (even if it worked a while ago!)
Previously, I cleared the game completely on Linux, without any problem.
Now I want to start a New Game +, but the game won't launch.
Things I tried
protontricks 1113000 wmp9 quartz devenum
protontricks --command 'wine LAVFilters-0.74.1-Installer.exe' 1113000
Once escaped from fullscreen, the screen remained black.
Works flawlessly, but requires Proton to be built from scratch using this patch, which will probably be merged very soon in Proton GE.
Native version is unplayable.
Wasted 2+ hours trying to understand why it won't start, then gave up.
My discoveries
- you definitely need
libcurl-gnutls.so.4
installed - you definitely need to
LD_PRELOAD
the librarylibfreetype.so.6
--coherent-options="--single-process"
helps resolving a GPU crash but still gets a black screen
Game crashes in lobbies with too many planets (but probably does the same thing in the Windows version)
Launch with SSL_CERT_FILE=/etc/ssl/certs/ca-bundle.crt PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% --coherent-options="--renderer-process-limit=3"
.
Without the custom launch options, the UI does not render.
Game has a few graphical problems, but is still playable
Font antialiasing does not work
Major stuttering problems in the whole game
A native Linux version may be available on the official website.
Created a extra.txt
file in the game's root folder with the following options:
-Dswing.aatext=TRUE
-Dawt.useSystemAAFontSettings=on
This mostly fixes font anti-aliasing.
Puzzles seem to draw a new frame only when a new input is received. Keyboard-only puzzles may have a framerate down to 1 FPS if the mouse is not constantly moved.
Game admins may issue "botting" bans for playing using Steam Input.
This has been both unofficially confirmed via player feedback, as some people were saying that they got permanently banned for playing on Deck, and officially confirmed via a in-game support request, where the game admins said that any botting bans due to playing on Steam Deck will not be reverted.
6.5-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
I used protontricks
to install the Committee of Zero patch. More details here.
Antialiasing seems to be missing.
The game and/or the patch won't launch at all without following the previous instructions, or will crash at the very beginning of the first chapter.
The game doesn't seem to close properly, closing it by pressing Close on Steam seems to be required to fully shut it down.
Can't progress further than Chapter 1.
Consistently crashes around the end of Chapter 1.
I switched to Windows afterwards.
Flawless!
Amount of money is in a pretty small font, but it's not excessively difficult to read.
Pretty good!
Rocket Pass missions have very small text. The rest of the UI is fine, though!
gamemoderun %command% -USEALLAVAILABLECORES -dx11 -NO_EOS_OVERLAY -nosplash
Vulkan render backend has significantly different lighting than the DirectX backends, to the point I'm not sure it's how the game is supposed to look like.
Performance is slightly worse than on Windows on the same settings.
Game won't launch if the DirectX 12 rendering backend is selected.
I'm not sure why this is classified as a tinker report. Everything I changed can be changed from the options menu...
Does not work with Proton.
Getting it to work could be useful, as Linux (native) version multiplayer is often incompatible with Windows versions.
Close and reopen the game every hour of play!
Heavy stuttering after ~50 minutes of play, fixable by closing and reopening the game.
It's not a big annoyance, since you can save anywhere and really quickly.
Flawless.
Please note that to play Repentance on Linux you'll need to force enable Steam Play, as the base game is available on Linux, while the DLC is not.
Game ran at ~10 FPS, and the game itself lowered its render resolution to try to increase the framerate
I was able to fix the stutter other users reported by creating the ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Proton 5.0/dist/share/default_pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Application Data/Origin
directory, but I was unable to fix the lag.
Flawless, except for an extremely minor bug.
While playing the Meteoroid Mania minigame at the arcade, the audio of my entire system becomes messed up. It fixes itself as soon as I quit the minigame, though.
The game works perfectly fine, but you won't often be able to see the victory screen.
Keeps crashing during the victory screen, preventing me from progressing towards unlocking Ranked.
Flawless, as long as you don't use the PC3 High shader.
PC3 High Shader has terrible performance, even on a GTX 1070
Ironically, the game runs better than on Windows 10, as it does not suffer from the White Screen compatibility issue.
Please note that you can't directly connect to non-FreeZone servers; to workaround the issue, you have to add them as favorites and join them from the favorites menu.
Very good, if audio works for you.
Sometimes, when launched, no audio is output from the game.
Don't alt-tab while you're playing.
Alt-tabbing may cause the game to start stuttering until a restart
I am running KDE Plasma on X.Org. I haven't tried disabling the compositor yet. Maybe that might fix the stutter...
Flawless.
Spectator mode desynced twice. It may be a bug of the game, or it may be due to Proton. I have no way to know.
