WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winhttp=n,b" %command%
Works just fine even with HF patch ( installation via Steam's launch option : PROTON_LOG=1 "PATH/TO/STEAMLIBRARY/steamapps/common/PROTON_VERSION/proton" waitforexitandrun "PATH/TO/HF/PATCH/INSTALLER.exe" && echo %command% > /dev/null )

Works out of the box on Proton Experimental, copying the folder from Windows partition and adding to Steam without installation works.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winhttp=n,b" %command%
Antialiasing is not the same as Windows
Requires WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winhttp=n,b" %command% as launch options to use mods.

For those struggling with HF installation path on Linux, the file browser will path with / while the system will path with 'backslash'. To find your directory path for the game, open the launcher or game, then launch the Linux task manager (also called system manager) (btop++ on Deck). When clicking on the game task, it will also show the true directory path.
I had to do a few things to get the HF patch to install. Based on my experience (HF 3.18): Move the exe and the bin files to your virtual C drive. Remove any spaces in the names of the bin files and the exe. Create a 32-bit wineprefix and install corefonts, dxvk, ole32, dotnet35 and dotnet472 (thanks to these guys for this step https://github.com/Mantas-2155X/illusion-wine-guide/blob/master/parts/setup-wineprefix.md). Upon attempting to install dotnet472, you may be informed that "This package (dotnet45) is broken in wine-6.0.3. Broken since 5.18. Upgrade to >=6.6" even if you're using a WINE version later than 6.6. Use: export WINEPREFIX="path/to/prefix"
winetricks --force dotnet472 This will also set your windows version to 2003; change it to windows 10. Open the exe with wine via the terminal (WINEPREFIX="path/to/prefix" wine "path/to/exe") instead of via a GUI. After installation, use proton 6.3-8 (and the DLLOVERRIDE parameter the others have mentioned below).
Runs perfectly OOTB.
The vanilla version of the game works with zero issues OOTB. I've yet to try it out with the HF patch installed (best way to play the game), but I wanted to try out the unmodified version of the game on Proton and it ran perfectly.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winhttp=n,b" %command%
I've only played this game signed out/offline mode, but I have done extensive testing and can confirm things work

Most people would give up when it wouldn't launch the first time. Modded game experience is different then on Windows.
Used to install mods/patch
If you are playing unmodded, if you try and launch in gaming mode it will not work. If you switch to desktop mode and launch from steam you will see the configuration window that appears. You have to switch the names of the koikatsu.exe and init config.exe I'd you want to launch in gaming mode unmodded
In the mod menu at launch, you cannot check any of the boxes.
If playing modded, it doesn't seem possible to remove the censoring even with the Illusion patch. Exact same game file played on windows and then the Deck had 2 very different experiences with the mods.
It's 75% of the windows experience when modded. Unmodded you need to fiddle with a lot to get it to work. Don't forget to shut off auto updates because you won't want to do this twice. Save yourself even more trouble and just copy it over from windows into the file here if modding.
Used to install HF Patch
I had quite a bit of trouble getting the HF Patch to install. None of the methods listed in other reports seemed to work on the seam deck.
The istaller could not locate the bin files required to install even if you manually entered the correct location.
Eventually I was able to get it installed by moving the installer and bin files into the virtual C drive wine creates. I used winetricks to open the C drive, and moved the files into Documents. Double clicked the installer exe and it instantly found the bin files and installed everything. It took a while to install probably 30-45 minutes. Everything works great now!
Other than doing that to install the HF patch I did zero tweaking. Using the default proton and didn't do anything in launch options.
Used to install hf patch
Runs great! 40-50fps on average. Installed the latest hf patch and everything seems to be working great.

Through steam, you can install the HF patch by setting your launch options to this:
PROTON_LOG=1 "PATH/TO/STEAMLIBRARY/steamapps/common/PROTON_VERSION/proton" waitforexitandrun "PATH/TO/HF/PATCH/INSTALLER.exe" && echo %command% > /dev/null
Make sure you get the paths right, then follow the installer's instructions.
To make sure everything loads correctly, change the launch options to override winhttp.dll:
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winhttp=n,b" %command%
Installing the HF patch through steam was pretty painless, and once its done it works perfectly. The base game runs fine through proton without any customizations, but imo the HF patch is mandatory.
Performance seemed about on par with what I've experienced on windows.
winhttp.dll override
Mostly user ignorance forced me to use Lutris to launch the game with Mods by adding the winhttp dll override in the wine config menu... tried to do it with Steam but I couldn't figure it out. Worked fine in Steam but would not load mods, now that I'm running it in Lutris, Steam will not run the game... big whoop, probably better if you don't add too much gametime to the clock with this one. All the content that makes this game good for the nut is with the mods, so they are very necessary.
The initial launcher will work but won't get you into the game. Easiest method is to add the main game executable (Koikatsu Party.exe) as a "non-steam game" and run it with that. Runs flawlessly after that.
Very minor cracking in audio from time to time

I downloaded and installed DXVK. This populated some entries in the 'Library' tab in winecfg, specifically "d3d10core, d3d11, d3d9 and dxgi" all native. DXVK is really important to make the game run smooth.
Now you need to manually add winhttp (native, builtin) override in the same winecfg window, this will allow all your mods to work.
After an hour of playing I noticed some degraded performance. I believe mods are responsible for this.
Regular Wine
You need to use Wine separately. After party DLC does not appear in-game though, do not buy it.

The base game experience worked great for me without having to mess with any settings. I installed the HF Patch mod pack using Wine, but the mods weren't appearing in the game.
To get the mod pack working, I had to right click the game in the Steam library, choose "Properties" and then in the "Launch Options" box, type: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winhttp=n,b" %command%

Requires a wine DLL override to enable mods (winhttp.dll) in game root. Also requires that the launcher be renamed and replaced with the game's executable.

You must rename "Koikatsu Party.exe" to "Initial Settings.exe" and rename the folder "Koikatsu Party_Data" to "Initial Settings_Data".
If you get a black screen you need to set the game's launch parameters to "TZ=America/New_York %command%"

Game launches after renaming the executable as described below. Installing the VR DLC or replacing any of the default game files with modded ones (with the exception of the official patch) causes the game to load into a black screen. Cursor will get randomly stuck requiring an alt+tab in and out; this, however also causes the camera controls during exploration to stop functioning correctly. So far, I have seen very few performance issues except when loading the school for the first time each day with lots of characters.

Game doesn't work. Tried renaming the executable and Data folder workaround and the game starts, but I'm greeted with a black screen and I'm unable to do anything else that's not closing the game.
If you know a workaround for this I'd appreciate if you submit another ProtonDB report for this game. Thanks in advance.

renaming the files make the game launch. to get mods working (and get the setup.xml) install the HF patch and then open the wineconfig for the prefix for this game (protontricks 1073440 winecfg) and then add under libraries all dll files from the BepInEx folder and folders within the BepInEx folder. (also D9VK can be used to speed up the game if it runs slow)

No success in running Initial Settings.exe so must change settings by modifying UserData/setup.xml which will not appear without some tweaking. No success in getting any mods to load up properly. Official patch works flawlessly and game runs very well. If you wish to run through Steam, you must rename "Koikatsu Party.exe" to "Initial Settings.exe" and rename the folder "Koikatsu Party_Data" to "Initial Settings_Data"

so here is how to play this game which runs perfect once you get it running. 1st: install windows steam in a wineprefix or use lutris for that. 2nd: install the game 3rd: make a shortcut to Koikatsu Party.exe (using Lutris make a custom game for it and set the prefix to the prefix and set the exxecutable to Koikatsu Party.exe)
so far without windows i don't see a way to get the setup.xml to apear in UserData so you can't go into fullscreen except you use a system shortcut to do it, if you have windows then you can set your setting and copy them to your UserData.
the initial settings don't work and renaming Koikatsu Party.exe gives you an error so that doesn't work

Not work if you launch the game directly with steam, try with an external command shell (or with lutris) i enable DXVK (1.2.2), Esync and enable pulseaudio low latency option. You cannot launch the "Initial Settings.exe" so for change the option you can go in UserData/setup.xml and change the quality and size screen. Every else work perfectly, you can also install the official patch, you just need wine+.net or mono.

Game is completely broken. None of the usual tweaks worked in any combination.
