At some moments was dialog missing. Disabling FSync and ESync in the proton launch options got rid of most of these problems.
Only slight stutters, I think it because of shader caching. It went away after playing a while.
After two hours when switching to the inventory screen.
I had to do the following things.
The game started in a 320s240 resolution making the game unreadable so I couldn't change the resolution in game. I used the Documents\Assassin's Creed Unity\ACU.ini file to set my resolution manually. Also I enabled the Virtual Desktop feature. I had to take a different route to do so then most users here.
To enable the virtual desktop:
- Install protontricks, if it is not already installed.
- Launch protontricks from the terminal using the command: protontricks --gui
- Select Assassin's Creed Odyssey
- Check if "Select the default wineprefix" is selected and press Ok.
- Select "Run winecfg" and press Ok.
- Go to the "Graphics section and enable "Emulate a virtual desktop"
- Set the desktop size you want (I suggest you to use the resolution of your monitor)
- Apply and exit.
To manually edit the ACO.INI file:
- As before
- As before
- As before
- As before
- Choose Run Explorer
- Navigate to My Documents\Assassins Creed Odyssey
- Open OCA.INI and change the following lines:
FullscreenWidth=2560
FullscreenHeight=1440
WindowedWidth=2560
WindowedHeight=1440
A breath of fresh air in todays market of lootboxes and in game purchases. And it runs flawlessly on Linux.
After the Proton Hotfix, the game can be played with the default Proton instead of Experimental.
Nothing to report. All default settings and it ran. I could create a character and save it.
On my laptop I didn't have to do anything, on my desktop I had to select Proton Experimental.
gamemoderun WINE_FSR_OVERRIDE=1 WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR_STRENGTH=1 __NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia %command%
Tested on an i7 6700K / AMD Vega56 / 32 GB RAM and on an AMD Ryzen 7 5800H / NVIDIA 3050 / 32 GB RAM
There is an incompatability under Linux/Proton with VSync causing a black screen. Editing the config file options.ini solves this on my PC.
File: options.ini in game folder. Set Driver = DirectX and VSync = false
On my laptop, using an NVidia card it works out of the box. My AMD RX6800XT apparently needs VSync to be turned off. So the question whether a typical user would enjoy this game when launched straight from Steam without tinkering is very dependent on the hardware used. The game runs using the default Proton version.
-offline -skipintro -RenderProfile_MaxFPS 60
There is a method available which let's one get rid of the connecting to server error. A dll file needs a one byte patch. See the other reports for more info. Proton-GE8-32 was the only version which worked for me. Game ran without issue after that. If you run into trouble, my recommendation would be to start clean and directly use GE8-32.
gamemoderun __NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia %command%
This is not a tinker report. The command line parameters are there to select my NVIDIA GPU. That's all.
gamemoderun %command%
Forgot to update system specs in previous report. This isn't really a tinker report. The command line arguments are just there to enable gamemode.
gamemoderun %command%
On my AMD system, I had to specifically select Proton 9.0-2. Otherwise I got an Fatal Error message.
Proton-6.20-GE-1 + VKD3D d3d12.dl compiled with fixes
Some FPS drops. Alt-Tabbing seemed to work.
After some time playing the game crashes out.
For now a custom built d3d12.dll was needed to make the game playable. A new vkd3d release with those fixes will make a difference. Proton Experimental has some issues still displaying menu's. With GE this is not a problem.
Borked. Black screen with stuck loading icon. The -FastLaunch option doesn't change anything.
The exact error is: ERROR:frame_sink_video_capturer_impl.cc(206)] Invalid resolutions constraints: 0x0 must not be greater than 0x0; and also within media::limits.
Proton-6.14-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Proton-6.14-GE-2
Some stuttering due to loading times from storage
Its still a beta but the game needs serious optimization. Were talking about 70% better. Given the graphics, this should be achievable.
18-22 fps
When in the oasis where you choose your weapon, it crashes
Unoptimized, when in the oasis where you choose your weapon, it crashes
Windows users are complaining about the performance they are seeing in combination with the graphics. So capcom will probably work on this.
Works. Created a community profile to use the left stick for steering
No patching required. It just works.

Not much to mention. Enjoyable.
gamemoderun __NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia %command%
No issues what so ever. The command parameters are just to select my NVIDIA GPU.
Needed to set compatibility to Experimental. After that, everything worked.
The UI elements are a bit difficult to read on the Steam Deck. Two times bigger would be betrer.
Same as on PC, needed to set Proton Experimental, UI elements are a tad small. Two times bigger would be easier to read.
