Great game, great experience
Had fun playing a quick LAN deathmatch
It's probably a bit more demanding comapred to running this game natively, but with modern hardware, it's not something you'd notice. Even with 3 castles fully garrisoned, and large armies and a lot of micro-ing, everything runs smoothly all the same
Runs perfectly
mangohud does not show FPS figures, but shows a GPU load of ~33%. When mangohud is enabled, cl_showfps 1
shows a constant 14 FPS, which doesn't match the smoothness of the game. Disabling mangohud (no launch options) and enabling cl_showfps
shows a steady 60 FPS (1080p, everything maxed out on 780m iGPU)
Mangohud overlay does not show FPS data, and seems to break cl_showfps
That said, apart from the few seconds stutter after loading, no problems running this one. No RTX support on Linux, but no surprises there.
Game stutters briefly after loading (just a few seconds). Runs smooth afterwards
Works perfectly. Some tinkering needed to get wide screen resolutions to work.
Quite astonishing that this runs as smoothly as it does on an iGPU (~100fps). For premier matches, I'll stick to my desktop, but still...
-novid -vulkan -fullscreen
After quitting, display scaling is set to 200% for some reason.
Many a word has been spoken about CS2 being poorly optimised, so I figured I'd try running it on my laptop, using the 780m iGPU. I've concluded that the rumours about poor optimisation are as over-stated, as the rumours about the 780m iGPU being powerful are understated.
Works fine, no tinkering needed
Game works fine out of the box. Did hear some sound stuttering twice during the first level, but IIRC, that was always an issue even back in the day. Mouse sensitivity (playing on trackpad) is extremely high. The game only supports a max resolution of 1024x768 by default, the mouse input is based on the system sensitivity (for a ~2k display). It's manageable for the early levels, some tweaking might be required to make it through the higher levels (will update when I get round to those)
Slava Ukraini, Heroyam Slava & Fuck Putin
After carefully constructing a variety of contraptions, sound just stopped. Happens on all platforms, so it's an issue with the game
In case any Russians see this: Nothing against the Russian people, nor do "we" (the collective West) want to take your land. We're opposed to your fascist dictator. We believe you, the Russian people, deserve better, and we don't approve of countries invading other countries for no reason. Personally, I was oppsed to the invasion of Iraq, perpetrated by the West, as much as I am opposed to the invasion of Ukraine. Simple as that.
No complaints, just try hitting space or alt+tab in and out if the game doesn't seem to load
loading the game takes some time, requires hitting a key (space/enter) to progress to the actual main menu
Runs like a charm
Works flawlessly on current version of proton (8.0.5), experimental however doesn't work yet
Perfect experience
Got my girlfriend to give this game a chance by playing some coop rooms with her.
One of the best games ever made, still worth occasionally replaying
Works perfectly out of the box
Indistinguishable from native, right down to the issue the game has running native on windows: before launching, make sure to enable vsync
When in game, it's pretty much a platinum/native type experience. Alt-Tabbing and Ubisoft Connect cause some minor issues
Alt-tabbing works, but after doing so, quitting to main menu gets stuck on an empty screen (just the background). Alt-Tab to steam and hit stop to quit.
When quitting the game, it's still showing as running in steam. Hit the Stop button to fix. Not the biggest of issues, just a nuissance.
Ran the game without much issues on custom settings at 1080p (pretty much very high detail, with motion blur switched off). No issues at all, although there are the occasional stutters when the game is saving/loading. Running the benchmark was a bit of an odd one, because as smooth as some sections were, the part in the vilage was really, really choppy.
Overall, I'd say it's playable on the right hardware, though I'd give it some more time to see if feral is going to release a native version for Linux as they've done with the previous titles. The moment they do, I'd recommend anyone to buy it. It's not the absolute gem of the series since the 2013 reboot, but it's a AAA title that has had consistent Linux support and I, for one, believe the devs deserve to be rewarded for that. All the same, the game is good, I'd say about on par with the 2013 Tomb Raider, but with a few more spacial puzzle elements that are actually reminiscent of the old tomb raider series.
