As far as graphics, even with d3d11, things like character models and the falling debris in the intro would not load in (you could see things like hit effects, the sigils on said debris, Bayo's mouth, eyes, and glasses) Biggest issue though, is that the game will often fail to save things like graphics changes. This failure causes the game to freeze until you close the prompt.

I've actually been having this issue for over a year now. After 300+ hours of near perfect gameplay (barring back when the ending cutscene didn't play) I bought the Vergil DLC expecting it to run perfect as well, but when I tried to start a mission, the game crashed during the loading screen. After numerous attempts to run the game with different versions of proton, both Valve and GE, changing config/ini files, trying many different launch options to specify that I wanted the game to use my graphics card rather than the built in graphics on my motherboard (which to be honest I wouldn't really know how to check anyway, both glgears examples looked identical), asking/searching around multiple forums and discords, even checking here with results filtered to systems similar to mine, I've had no success. I know the game is steam deck verified and there is even video of the vergil DLC running on a steam deck, which is why this confuses me even more, and basically I'm ready to give up.
Just the one crash trying to start the Vergil DLC
I'm not gaslighting myself, am I?

After 2 years of trying to play as vergil, I broke down and did a clean install of Manjaro and everything worked perfectly. idk what was going on and preventing it from working before, and I feel like I know even less now than I did before. Have fun I guess.
doesn't get past the start screen without a crash
Vergil and Trish are currently unplayable, loading into bloody palace mode, or a normal level (outside of the tutorial in Vergil's case), will give you a near black screen with a visible but broken HUD, as well as flickering graphics. See: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/1779
Graphics were fine, game ran fine. I was having issues getting my DS4 to work. The camera would constantly move around the player and face up, it still reacts to using the right thumb stick, but doesn't stop. I first checked to see if it was my computer mouse, I changed the control scheme in the menu to DS4, only to find that I had to remap all the buttons first, After doing so, button prompts would flicker and change between two numbers.
The game does not start. It doesn't even show up on my system monitor. was not able to get any sort of error message.

Audio is harsh and choppy as if the frame rate is lower than it should be
At times it felt like the game was running slower than it should be, specifically in menus
After about 2 or so hours, the game crashed and I was unable to close it, nor was I able to alt+tab out of the game. I tested it with esync off and it still crashed. I haven't been able to find out why this is. Other than this, the game works perfectly.
Upon launch the game gets to a trademark screen but then remains black for a long period of time. I disabled esync, forced large address aware, and even used wine D3d11 with no success.
After installing the game, I tried to play it. and it would not even load to a menu.
I mean, it's only real fault is that it's Ninja Gaiden Sigma and not like... Ninja Gaiden Black
It skips all the pre rendered videos for me, so only in-engine cutscenes work
As with my NG Sigma report, It's nowhere near as good as the 360 original, but they tried to save it.
