Downloaded Xliveless and installed it into the game directory. Added tv.rockstargames.com to the file /etc/hosts. Minor graphical glitches in the sky and occasional flickering shadows. If framerates are low, lower visibility range. 1440p works fine for me, but some may have to go with 1080p for a smoother experience. Installs but doesn't launch. Tried a couple of tricks like renaming the launcher as in previous definitive edition games to no avail.
Fixable through GloriousEggroll's proton version. Just install it and you're good to go with the game.
Occasional swapping of distant textures. May be because of the game itself rather than the set-up, but haven't confirmed.
Use borderless windowed mode to avoid problems with the game.
For the native linux steam version make ~/.steam/root/compatibilitytools.d if it's not there yet and extract the custom glorious eggroll version of proton there (https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases).
