Completed the game in 30 hours with dualshock4 controller. No bug encountered.
Works perfectly, but unplayable in Japanese.
Everything work except when you are using Japanese language, where some fonts display as tofu/squares and not recognizable, making the game unplayable.
I've tried the following tweaks but neither works:
- Installing fonts with winetricks:
winetricks fakajapanese takao
- Sym-linking all fonts in my windows 10 partition to the font folder in the wine prefix
- Changing locale (
LC_ALL
,LANG
) toja_JP.UTF-8
orja_JP.EUC-JP
Setting launch option LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8 %command%
is required to play in Japanese. Some characters won't display correctly otherwise.
Opening movie and cut-ins won't play, which is a long-running issue for asf playback.
No video playback issues or controller (ds4) issues during my ~7 hour play. Stable 720p 30fps.
Fairly playable
Need to manually reconfigure the buttons in the wizard (fill secondary buttons beside keyboard keys)
Played 5+ hours to the end and had no issue.
Crashes every other day in game
Crashes every 20-30 minutes
Make sure you save often.
Proton log said that game crashed for opening too many file handlers, while setting sysctl -w fs.file-max=1000000
did not help postponing the crash.
Dead-zone is too low with dualshock4 controller (not tested in windows, may not be linux-specific though)
Mostly stable. Only one crash during 11 hours of game play (crashed when getting out of the guild)
Proton Version: Proton-6.16-GE-1
Disabling steam controller support is required to make controller recognized in game, so do USB cable connection (bluetooth does not work).
If touchpad on dualshock4 were mapped to a mouse device, that should be disabled to make it work in the game. Depending on your system, you may alter Xorg files, udev rules or wayland-specific config. For sway users, try the following:
swaymsg input 1356:2508:Sony_Interactive_Entertainment_Wireless_Controller_Touchpad events disabled
Proton-6.16-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Proton-6.16-GE-1
Enabling FSR in addition (WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 %command%
) gives a FPS boost with a smoother play experience on my hard.
This game does not seem to be affected by a recent bug (https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/5144) causing most games crashing.
Works out of the box
Stuck on applying the 30 fps patch, which seems to be hacking d3d9. I haven't tested it, but using this patch requires wined3d and drops all the goodness of dxvk. May not worth a try on laptop.
Except the framerate cap, everything work as expected.
Proton version: Proton-6.16-GE-1
The game crashes immediately with RADV driver. AMDVLK works perfectly.
Everything works well with RADV video driver
On AMDVLK driver, occasional crashes with or without audio sudden stop 1-2 minutes ahead (though you can save your game when audio stopped playing).
On RADV driver, no crashes within my ~3 hours of play.
It seems strange for a series game, as RADV does not function properly, while AMDVLK works perfectly in ToCS1.
Also tested Proton-7.0rc3-GE-1 for 3 hours, without significant problems.
Just FYI, shader for the river looked strange when I tested with AMDVLK, and I deleted the respective shadercache folder.
