Works very well on default Proton (Linux Mint, Proton 8.0-3 or Experimental) but some graphical quality issues.
Blurring on the edges of objects/characters, no matter what I change in settings. So graphics not as good as on Windows/PS5, unfortunately.

Flawless including with gamepad. Didn't shutdown fully first time, but did after that.
Didn't shutdown properly 1st time (had to click STOP in Steam), but did the 2nd and subsequent times.
Had to click STOP in Steam to shut it down first time after quitting in-game, but it shuts down fine since then.
Excellent on default 8.0-3 or Experimental except for shutdown issue (below)
Doesn't shutdown properly; Fix: Turn off "lockMouseToWindow" in-game setting, then you can shut it down using the mouse to click STOP in Steam.

Flawless on Linux Mint w default Steam proton verion (8.0-3 or Experimental)
Xbox Series controller works flawlessly too (cabled)
Flawless on Linux Mint with Steam default proton (8.0-3 or Experimental)
Reducing resolution resulted in a window of the game, not fullscreen, so have to play it at my display's native 4k resolution.
Linux Mint 21.2 I tried disabling my 2nd display to no avail,
Then I tried Proton Experimental as others have suggested and only got as far as the initial menu, and it would crash and log me out at the same time over and over again.
Then i tried disabling the Steam overlay, and using ProtonUp-Qt to use GE Proton 8-14 the game worked ONE TIME on LOW graphical settings (Despite having an AMD 6900XT graphics card), but never worked again after that for some reason.
As a last resort I tried playing the game on fairly recently "fresh" install of Fedora 38 Workstation, giving access and automount to the SSD where Starfield was installed via Linux Mint, and got to the menu where I set graphics to HIGH and it works flawlessly.
I don't know if my Mint install is hacked or bugged or what, but at least I can play on Fedora 38.
After getting it to work flawlessly on a fresh install of Fedora 38, I returned to Linux Mint 21.2, whose interface I had tinkered with quite a bit previously.
I reset ALL settings using terminal command: gsettings reset-recursively org.cinnamon (Without sudo) Then I tried launching Starfield from Linux Mint using Proton Experimental and was able to load the saved game and it was still on High graphics settings!
So clearly some customization that I had done to Linux Mint 21.2 was the problem. Not sure which.
Flawless with Manjaro updated to the latest packages (especially the Linux kernel)
Has crashed only 1 time on a loading screen (with 7hrs played)
Could not run it on Linux Mint 21.2, worked flawlessly on Fedora38 but Fedora's Gnome 44 is useless for my work-from-home requirements (taskbar icons especially), so I explored different distros and found Manjaro 23 with the KDE desktop fit ALL my gaming and work needs due to Starfield running almost as flawlessly as Fedora, and having a normal and decent taskbar area for my cloud storage requirements and notifications.
After all this testing, it seems that having an older version of the Linux kernel (link in Mint) was possibly the main problem. Fedora has a very new version and Manjaro is a rolling-release distro so it gets the latest packages of almost everything. Recommended.
Flawless (Linux Mint, default Steam proton v (8.0-3 or Experimental)
