Looks great, but at least on AMD there seems to be a crash.
With my RX 5700 XT it always crashes after SPOILERS: both Vincent and Leo jump on the glass roof at the Prison Escape scene.
It looks like the game works great out of the box. And the crash on AMD that happened on a previous report of mine seems to be fixed now.
It could happen that the game fails to open for some reason. If it keeps failing, uninstalling or deleting the Proton/Wine Prefix can fix the issue for good.
Despite the problems, the game works, if you can play solo or with friends online, it can be a blast. Specially with custom Zombies Maps.
Proton-6.5-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
The game needs GE's Proton and you also need to go to the game's files and either rename or delete the 'video' folder.
Sometimes the textures can go all wonky when entering a map on Zombies and restarting the game fixes it. Doesn't seem to happen often, but is a bit annoying.
At first, my mouse was not working properly. The buttons worked, but moving the mouse would cause the camera to go all the way up or down. In my case, I fixed it by going to the 'Controls' config in-game and hitting the 'Default' button for every tab in there, then adjusting it to my liking.
There also seems to be a problem with controllers. After 10-15 minutes, the controller disconnects and can't be connect again until you restart the game. It is pretty annoying when you're wanting to play some split screen with a friend.
My computer should be able to play this game at 144FPS easily, but it floats from 60 - 130 at the beginning of a round. After a couple minutes, it remains stable usually, unless I'm opening a Mystery Box on Zombies, where it drops for a few seconds.
Also, playing with a controller makes the performance drop to 30 and float all the way to 100 all the time, it's playable, but is really bad. Capping to 60FPS may prevent the drops when using a controller, I didn't test it a lot.
As of right now, no videos work, even with the latest Proton fork by GloriousEggroll as of time of writing, so you need to rename the video folders in both the game, and on the mods if you have any installed, otherwise, the game crashes. Hopefully this will be fixed soon.
Tutorial, Missions and Online work, Arcade and Training freeze on Character Select. Seems to work equal on Default Proton and 6.10-GE.
Proton-6.10-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Used the newest GloriousEggroll's custom Proton (Proton-6.10-GE-1) to have the eagle video on select screen instead of colored bars. Otherwise, it looks like the game runs the same on default Proton.
It looks like the game will crash on the character select screen after the second character has been select. So for now it is impossible to go to Training Mode and Arcade Mode.
As a side note, when the game moves you to a higher floor online, mine sat on the loading screen indefinitely, doesn't know if it is a Proton/Wine issue or just bad luck.
I was able to start and play the game, I only played for around 30 minutes, but everything seemed to work normally.
With me the game not only crashed, but locked my GPU when starting a new save file.
If you're on AMD you'll need to change Tesselation to Low to be able to run the game, otherwise it will crash and/or lock you GPU, as described by this user on the Github issue for this game:
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/438#issuecomment-522252631
If you don't want to follow the link I provided, here are the instructions to launch the game successfully with an AMD GPU:
You will need to go to the folder where your game is installed, usually **~/steam/steamapps/common/No Man's Sky/**, than enter the folder **/Binaries/SETTINGS** and open the file **TKGRAPHICSSETTINGS.MXML** with a text editor of your choice. There locate this line:
**Property name="TerrainTessellation" value="TkGraphicsDetailTypes.xml"**
Bellow that line there should be this one:
**Property name="GraphicDetail" value="High" /**
Change **"High"** to **"Low"**, save the file and you're set. Next time you start the game it should work properly.
**Note:** If you just installed the game and this file is not present, you'll need to start the game once for it to be created, I don't know if you need to try to enter a save or if just starting is enough, but one of the two will work.
Game runs pretty smooth only a few frame drops, but the title screen is not working, neither are any cutscenes. I don't know what I could tweak to make it works perfectly.
The video cutscenes still doesn't work, and I haven't find a solution to this yet. Maybe someone will come with a solution to this.
However, the online issues are now fixed on Proton 3.16-4 as it was a problem on Proton itself sending corrupted data to the game servers. So you can now play the game online with no problems, I tested playing against other people, and it was great, there is only one thing tho, the game couldn't seem to recognize the region I was in, it was showing the mapa mundi at the side of my name. So I don't know if it was just a bug or if it can't actually recognize my region.
Performance wise the game runs pretty good, there is a little performance hit tho, but nothing big, lowering my scale setting from 125 to 120 gave me almost rock solid 60fps.
All game modes are working, with the only exception being Chronicles where you will need to launch it one single time on Windows to get past de first cutscene, after that it should work.
Proton-5.9-GE-5-ST GloriousEggroll
Had to use the latest [GloriousEggroll's Proton version] (https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom) because it contains the latest work on the Media Foundation support, enabling the game to load the company logos that appear on launch.
There is some minor stuttering for me when playing with VSYNC on.
For some reason the multiplayer for me is extremely unstable. I was able to play a mission once with a friend that plays on Windows. But I can't play with him again, the game just hangs at the loading screen.
I couldn't find a solution to the problem I have, I tried reinstalling the game, verifying files and changing the Proton version, but nothing worked, if someone have a solution I would love to know.
Ignoring the graphical issues (probably related to AMD), it seems to be a pleasant experience.
So this one is only present on the Native version. For some reason the Intro video plays correctly, but the in-game audio doesn't, couldn't find the reason or how to fix it, maybe it's related to my distro of choice. Running on Proton tho fixes this as the game works correctly, but as mentioned before, it comes with graphical issues on my hardware.
If anyone knows how to fix the audio issues on the Native port, please let me know.
On the big boss fight on the tutorial area everything was a glowing mess of different colors, it was hard to navigate because of that. Probable have more graphical issues, but I didn't get too far into the game to know.
