Works fine with PS3 controller. Audio is choppy but not terribly.
Got to the first save point. Works fine without doing anything. Everytime a monster appears, it lags a bit. Some rooms take a few seconds to load. Always crashes on exit and have to restart steam because it doesn't fully close.
As said in the reports below, it works fine after using this workaround https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/838#issuecomment-447379664. Tested with PS3 gamepad and fullscreen.

Borderless doesn't occupy the whole screen on Gnome 3 and fullscreen captures the cursor inside the game window and can't alt-tab so I'm kind of stuck inside the game until I close it
Game starts and hangs where I suppose the brand logos start to appear
Game starts, shows loading screen and asks the user if they want to create a new profile. Then black screen and hangs forever. After closing, the game keeps running in the background.
I don't think it really freezes. If I press some buttons on my gamepad, the cursor disappears but nothing else happens.
Working fine with this workaround: execute steam with PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1
