Plays exactly like it did in windows!
The only exception is that on Windows it ran at over 160FPS, on Linux it appears to be capped at 140FPS desptie no bottlenecks in my system.
Switched from Native to Proton.
Was able to play with my friend who invited me via steam with zero troubles!
I don't know about playing the game Natively, as the only reason I got it was to play with my friend on Windows, and hearing that multiplayer didn't work on Native, I decided to just go straight to playing with the Windows version under Linux.
Works out of the box.
Specifically the sound of the camera flip is a little lower quality than I remember it being on Windows.
This game works perfectly fine out of the box!
I love this childhood classic.
Some sound was a bit lower quality than I remember it being on Windows.
Steam didn't give me my saves from Windows, either that or the game didn't pick it up.
Another note, for some reason in the video settings it wont use anything more or less than 60hz refresh rate, despite my monitor being 180hz. Back on Windows it would let me select something else no problem. But, honestly, I don't care if i'm using 60 or 180, I just love this game and the fact that I can play it.
Had to change from the native version to Proton
Mouse was extremely laggy in the Native version, switching to Proton and using the Windows version of it fixed it.
Nothing extra to add, just make sure you're not running the native version.
I went to ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/3590/pfx/drive_c/ProgramData/PopCap Games/PlantsVsZombies/ copied popcapgame1.exe, went to ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Plants Vs Zombies/ and replaced PlantsVsZombies.exe with it.
Some sound sounded low quality compared to Windows. (i.e. the laugh when clicking Adventure)
FPS drop during picking your seeds for a level.
After changing the .exe file, the game worked perfectly fine out of the box, and for those new to Linux like I am, you can just copy and paste those directories into Dolphin or whatever your file explorer is, and I believe it should work.
Works perfectly fine out of the box!
With my hardware, this game even runs at high framerates with no problems!
Works awesome OOTB!!
The sound of pulling out a sword sounds lower quality than I remember it from Windows.
This is one of my favorite games, and it works perfectly fine under Linux, and I would even say it works better under Linux OOTB than it does on Windows! You can even mod it!
