Runs perfectly out of the box, no performance hit, although a map downloaded from the game's mod repo would not load, and maps took longer to load in than I remember on windows
Seem to run well although I could not get a Dual Shock 4 controller's joystick to function, although it may be possible if it is looked further into.
Runs perfectly, even better than I remember it running on Windows. Only issue is sometimes when starting the game it give an "Unhandled exception" error, but just killing the process and trying to start the game again usually remedies this with 1-2 attempts
Works Flawlessly
Just install and play. My Dualshock 4 needed to be passed through Steam's controller settings but it works perfectly out of the box.
Game Runs Perfectly
Everything runs perfectly without extra modification, the only thing that doesn't work is the video messages you get from drivers in the post-race screen.
To get it to work properly, I had to change the Proton version to "5.0-10" in the game's Properties > Compatibility section.
Alt + Tabbing out breaks the game. I haven't tried anything other than full screen mode because it's how I prefer to play the game, but if you click off the window the game shows a black screen and is seemingly unrecoverable in my experience. Could be different with a different GPU/driver, I'm not sure though.
Since I use a DualShock 4, at first it was not detected, however enabling it in Steam's general controller settings solved the problem.
On some tracks, on the first outlap, there is some slight stuttering. This may have been because I have the game on an NTFS hard drive, and the problem goes away within the first lap or two. Other than that it runs great, but I thought it was important to note.
The aforementioned Alt-Tab locks up the game, plus it seems broken (at least in Arch/Manjaro) with the current version of Proton.
Runs Perfect
Water in the lake seemed glitchy, but I'm not sure if the Windows version has this bug as well. Not really a big deal though.
Had no problems setting this up, just downloaded it and ran it. Everything worked out of the box.
Because my preferred distro is Manjaro KDE, this works rather flawlessly for me. If you are not running a form of KDE, it will not work. That being said, following the instructions at https://github.com/catsout/wallpaper-engine-kde-plugin is straightforward and other than building the KDE plugin and telling it where your Steam folder is, no further tinkering is required.
As long as your desktop environment is KDE, this will work great. Just follow the instructions to install the wallpaper engine KDE plugin at https://github.com/catsout/wallpaper-engine-kde-plugin and it works flawlessly.
