Unable to install additional software
The game uses Pytorch to power its reinforcement learning model. The game attempts to install it upon startup, but it immediately fails and returns an error on Linux. Looked on the developer's Discord, and they said that Steam Deck (and Linux by extension) is not supported. This may change in the future, but for now it doesn't seem to work at all on Linux.
Two display options are available: Borderless Windowed and Windowed. Game occasionally looks "framey" in borderless windowed mode, but its perfectly playable. Windowed mode doesn't work at all; the game will run but not render. Only way of fixing it is to navigate to the settings menu by sound to return it to Borderless Windowed mode then restarting.
Steam Overlay does not work, and there is no way of remapping the controls ingame.
Works well using Experimental Proton. Native version seemed worse from the short time I tried it.
VKD3D_FEATURE_LEVEL=12_2 VKD3D_CONFIG=dxr11 PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0 PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 gamemoderun %command% -deependark -forcenohdr
Edited the user.cfg file to remove the motion blur (see PCGamingWiki)
Raytracing cannot be turned off (it's what powers the lighting). Use the launch options shown to enable DLSS to compensate for the raytracing. "-deependark" fixes the washed-out visuals, while "-forcenohdr" turns HDR off.
Enabled by default
This is enabled by default.
Set “-force -dx11” as a launch option to switch from using VKD3D to VKDX, which has much better performance and looks basically the same. The only other issue is that videos don't work, which include the opening company logos, the video on the Otto-matics, and a video that plays during a specific boss fight. None of these videos are essential, but they are hard to ignore.
Online is great, just remember to use ethernet. If you want to use a GameCube controller, here is a helpful guide by the community.
Infrequent frame drops/stutter, but it seems like it might be a problem with the game based on reports from Windows users. Not too noticable and does not hinder gameplay.
I have only played with Experiemental Proton. Have not tested it with any stable versions.
Everything works great besides some minor artifacting with dynamic lights. Even the tutorial videos work!
If dynamic lighting is enabled, the final level repeatedly flashes the whole screen white. It's very unpleasant, but it's easily fixed by disabling dynamic lighting (which it already is by default). I have not confirmed if this bug exists on Windows.
The framerate drops every time you or an enemy hits something (melee or gun). Seems to be an issue with shader compilation? Not too sure. I briefly switched to a version of GE Proton with DXVK-async enabled to see if that would fix it, but it didn't. Not sure if there is a fix for this. Would recommend playing at a high framerate to make it less noticable.
Works perfectly apart from some helpful but non-important tutorial and intro videos.
Initial boot put the game in a strange "double windowed fullscreen" mode, where the game's window seemed to exist inside another window, indicated by the game content being shifted down to accomodate a black bar at the top (also there were 2 Steam FPS counters in the top corner). I ended up fixing this by switching the game to windowed mode then back to fullscreen.
I capped the framerate to 120 and it was rock solid. It didn't tax my GPU much either. Seems very well-optimized.
