Needs to be played on Proton with this script to be able to play with Windows users https://gist.github.com/jrbergen/0ce746676c4fbcc2becd6054d1bba2ed
Game will lag badly after ~20 minutes due to the game's replay system by default.
To fix this, go into .../Steam/steamapps/compatdata/231430/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/My Games/Company of Heroes 2/
and set the 'playback' folder permissions to be 'read only'.
I tested this and it prevents this lag from appearing for roughly 90 minutes on my end.
Needs the Proton patch in the github to avoid games cancelling due to desync after 1 minute, but works well after.
Only happens after alt tab for a few seconds when audio is playing
Mouse will sometimes jump a little, once every few minutes
Lighting can be laggy with soft shadows
unset SDL_VIDEODRIVER; gamescope -w 3440 -h 1440 -r 60 -- gamemoderun mangohud %command%
Launch options are probably not needed at all, these are just mine
Extremely well-optimized, no slowdowns except for when spamming multiple artillery fire call-ins, neither my CPU or GPU get hot when playing on Ultra settings
unset SDL_VIDEODRIVER; gamescope -w 3440 -h 1440 -r 60 -- gamemoderun mangohud %command%
Needs to use the unset SDL_VIDEODRIVER
launch option to not kick you from online games for 'EAC Integrity Errors'.
gamescope -w 3440 -h 1440 -r 60 -b -- gamemoderun mangohud %command%
Proton 8/9 crashed on start for me. Ultra settings set my 6950XT on fire at 100% usage, but medium is ~50% usage and stable. The launch options are not needed to play
Very minor, using pipewire
Good, but with some predictable crashes outside of matches themselves.
The game crashes for me if I alt tab when it's loading to the main menu, and when I disconnect from a match during the post-game screen. However, the latter seems to be a bug introduced in a bugfix update from a few days ago. It didn't happen before.
Rarely the map (not the game map, the overview map of where your team members are, objectives, etc) and certain 3D assets won't load in until ~20 seconds after I spawn.
Gameplay wise, other than the few crashes mentioned, it plays just like it does on Windows 10 for me.
unset SDL_VIDEODRIVER; gamemoderun mangohud %command% -useallavailablecores -dx12
To get mic input, I had to go into the wineprefix's .../AppData/Local/SquadGame/Saved/Config/WindowsNoEditor/Game.Ini
and Engine.ini
and delete everything after the "=" on the "AudioInputDevice" and "AudioDevice" entries. To get EAC to work, I had to add the "unset SDL_VIDEODRIVER" launch option.
If I run it for 1-3+ hours, I can get crackling/clipping audio. Otherwise no
Was hard to config the game to not stutter on higher settings, but I ran it from a 5400RPM HDD so it ran great considering that.
EAC error on startup, like the other reviews
gamemoderun mangohud %command%
Gamescope seems to crash the game on Native, I couldn't get it to launch past the launcher with Proton 7/8/9. Tested with all DLC installed with 262 mods.
gamescope -w 3440 -h 1440 -r 60 -b -- gamemoderun mangohud %command%
Sound freaks out for a minute if you alt tab out and in a few times while loading, gets worse the more you alt tab once it happens, but works fine otherwise
A few large mods were used, friend hosted on Windows 10
Launch options are optional, but use Proton 8 of some kind
Sounds can clip/crackle when a lot are played at once during longer matches
