Has the black bars top and bottom, as mentioned by others. Those do not disappear for me when disabling Uplay overlay. With the overlay enabled, the game will not even start, stuck in a black screen when loading. The only way for me to get rid of the black bars is enabling a desktop environment with a fixed resolution using protontricks. Unfortunately, in that mode my 360 controller is not recognised anymore.
In the end I play with controller and black bars. Occasional crashes are due to my 2 GB of VRAM, which is the official minimum requirement for the game. Would probably happen in Windows as well, but haven't tested it. Apart from this compromise it seems to be fully playable. But a compromise means Silver in my book.
Bayonetta came bundled with Proton 3.7 (Valve pick), so consider this a PSA that it also works fine with 4.2-2. I've had a write error message after turning on SSAO in graphics settings, but after closing that window, it just continued saving and settings had been applied. Not an obstacle, nothing to tune, so still platinum in my book.
A window flashes up and then closes, game does not start. I have read the other comments on WINEPREFIX, but I am not going to bother with a CLI command to fix a game on my HTPC. I wanted to add this report to show that the issue still persists with Proton 4.2-2 and Mesa 19.
A window flashes open and then shuts down again immediately, ie. the game does not start at all.
Same with Steam Linux Runtime, Proton 5.0-7, and 4.11-13.
I played an old save from Windows. Everything loaded fine, audio was good, though it requires the use of the ESYNC switch, as others here have mentioned. X360 wireless controller mapping was not recognised, but that's also a thing on Windows; mapping the buttons in the game worked on first try. Could not be bothered to finish the level I started.
I loaded a saved game from Windows and everything loaded fine, there was audio, controller mapping was recognised, etc. I did not bother to play a level from beginning to end, but jumped around the map to different islands and places, checked DX9 / DX11, UHD resolution and many other settings. No problems anywhere. Performance seems to be better in 3.16-8 of Proton, there was stutter in 4K on 4.2-2, but that's on a weak APU, so could have been anything. But if you notice it, just go back to 3.16-8 and try again. Hope that helps.
Loaded into a saved game from Windows. Everything opened fine, audio was there, no stuttering. Did not bother to finish the loaded level.

Can't get it to run. First there is an error screen saying the VRAM was recognised as 0.75 GB (real size: 2 GB). Then the start screen does not recognise my 360 controller, even in Big Picture with the right config. After telling wine explicitly that the GPU has 2 GB (with protontricks), the error message says 1 GB recognised. Either way, not going to play this with keyboard and mouse. Also, why is there no exit button on the start screen? Do you really need to Alt-Tab out and close the task? Does not seem right. So, to state it clearly, I have not gone into the game, because of no controller. The VRAM recognised as 1 GB may or may not lead to issues later in the game. I would not know. Will be waiting for a fix for this.
The command "protontricks 644930 -q --force vcrun2017 dotnet472 gdiplus" mentioned by others made this run on my system. Today V1.0 was released and I wanted to give it a spin on Linux. Glad it worked out with the information provided by other reviewers, thanks for that!
As others have mentioned, in-game music does not work, tried with the Esync option as well. Played into a new custom game without any other issues. Did not test online play, as I don't play this game online, but online login into the game account and sync options worked fine.
Cannot seem to make it start. A few seconds after launching it synchronises and then it's done. Tried all available Proton versions including betas, with several protontricks annihilations and various winecfg settings in between rounds.
