I can probably resolve this through Kubuntu Special Window Settings.
Using Proton Experimental and Steam per game controller options...set it to "Forced On" to resolve the drift.
8/25/23 Game would hang at "Installing script Microsoft DirectX" No matter what proton I selected it would not make it past this.
Set compatibility to GE-Proton8-13
When it says installing script Microsoft DirectX open task manager search "directx" kill the task.
Punk buster install pops up.
Clicked finish. Game borked... Close the game. Set compatilbity to Proton 8.0-3. Click Play...works 100%

Rebooted entered bios change sytem agent config from auto to iGpu.
Exited Bios and shutdown.
Swapped my HDMI from my Nvidia GTX GeForce 1050 Ti to my intergrated HDMI port and powered up.
Downloaded the official Nvidia Driver for my card.
Copied it into my home directory.
"sudo - i" no parenthesis...I got root
cd /home/username
"ls" listed all files
found my download in the dir "NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-535.104.05.run"
typed "./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-535.104.05.run" and initiated the install process.
Rebooted.
Saved my config file via the Nvidia utility and wollah game runs flawless...well almost a tiny crackling and I'm not even sure it's not part of the game.

I threw every known existing launch option and trick at this game and no dice. Installing it in bottles then using bottles menu add game to steam. (Discrete Graphics, Feral Game Mode, Preload Game Files.
To this day this game crashes right after the game intros. On proton 6.3 you can hear audio playing but nothing but a black screen.

I installed via bottles and send shortcut to steam then sgdboop to get artwork. Notes: Click controller icon and disable steam input and let bottles handle your gamepad. It may stump some of you. Unless you do this, in almost all games added via bottles the gamepad simply won't work. You do not have to use Boilr to get this game up and running.

If you sent shortcut to steam via bottles, you must disable steam input and let bottles handle the gamepad!! Then it works flawless!!

I bought the game on gog and installed it in bottles then just added it as a non steam game but not from bottles menu. I tried installing the gog offline installer as a non steam game and got a black screen with nothing that would fix it. Installing it in bottles then adding it by it's exe in steam works using Proton 7.06.

I bought the game on gog and downloaded the offline installer files. I installed it as a non steam game then sgdboop'ed it.

No one mentioned that the game is still playable offline. It does work.

You can't buy any ships so you can't begin the game. I've tried 2 different versions of proton. The issue seems to be something else.

Game was totally unplayable. I had to request a Steam refund.
Qjoypad
2 controllers (afterglow xbox 360 controller and Buffalo BSGP 1601) after firing first shot the view shifts up and I was not able to center the view. Switching per game controller options to "forced off" and using Qjoypad to map keyboard shortcuts resolved this issue.
I had to exit out of the origin install (gave an error) and go to my games library...properties and select use proton experimental and then it perfectly installed origin and allowed me to play.
This game is digital catnip!! My cat went ape s** over this game but I could not play it past the first cutscne.

Cat 'falls through world' after first cut scene. I was not able to play any further. (Requested refund)

Proton-7.0rc2-GE-1 Works for Skyrim Special Edition and the DLC Anniversary Upgrade.
Switch out of big picture mode before downloading. When the download begins right click it in library/collection and properties/compatibility mode and use proton experimental. After it finishes downloading click the play button. It will begin installing ubisoft connect. It will make it to 100% downloading and then give an invalid entry point error. Disregard it and close it and the game out. Go back and click play again. This time the ubisoft connect will load perfectly. Create an account or login to one and enjoy your game. I agree with someone else this should remain a platinum game.

Wouldn't launch with experimental without setting the dx version. Without using the dx version in launch options if EAX is enabled you will get a wine mono error requesting you to install wine mono.
