works out of the box, though probably a bit power-hungry
in-game options let you rescale the text, so set it fairly high on the slider
selecting the right interaction point is a bit awkward, not sure how to improve this yet...
i haven't tinkered yet, but i think battery life could be improved with some reduced settings... it's not particularly well optimised, and certainly doesn't need to be 60fps for this style of game
The music in Final Fantasy games is a vital part of the atmosphere of the story. It's a very different game without music (less engaging).
Helps to have touchpad bound for mouse + click to get through the warning & launcher
No music
Controller must be set to keyboard shortcuts, doesn't work as a controller
I tried to use protontricks as others have recommmended on Linux, but had errors unpacking several of the libraries (e.g. dmsynth). Also tried GE-Proton 7.39 and Proton Experimental, but none fixed the music.
works out of the box, great couch multiplayer game with multiple controllers
couch-multiplayer is the way God intended this game to be played (it's kind of lame any other way IMO)
tested with PS5 controllers, but should work with anything Deck-compatible
- increased min VRAM to 4GB in the BIOS
- used CryoByte33's 'steam-deck-utilities' tool to increase swap file size to 16GB and reduce swappiness value from 100 down to ~10
roughly followed SDHQ guide:
- Framerate limit: 30
- TDP limit: 30
- Output Resolution: 1152x720
- AMD FSR: Quality
- FSR Sharpening 0.3
- Texture Quality: Low
- Model Quality: High
- Anisotropic Filter: Min
- Shadows: Original
- Reflections: Original
- Atmospherics: Low
- Ambient Occlusion: Original
not regularly a concern
- crashed reliably if i tried to open a browser and switch between GoW + browser (likely running out of RAM + Swap)
- crashed maybe 2-3 times otherwise in playing entire game + all achievements
- going into standby was OK mostly, but it did crash once after going in + out of standby a few times in a row
CryoByte33's changes + min 4GB VRAM are pretty sensible changes for all games as best I can see, so worth doing
controller customisation
added shortcuts/controls for:
- right joystick for height (left joystick mapped as right joystick)
- directional arrows + space for one of the puzzles (d-pad + A)
- ctrl for quick access to inventory (back button) otherwise trackpad as mouse + click got me through most of it
lowered TDP a bit
Works well on Steam Deck.
The DLC is vast and I have spent far more than is sensible on them. And more just keep coming. Not sure I can keep up.
