I had to change the Proton version to the latest 4.11 version I had installed. With Proton 5.0-9, although the game seemed to launch perfectly, I never could connect to any online games.
I had to install the proprietary NVidia drivers. Game would crash on startup when using default Nouveau drivers.
Runs flawlessly out of the box. Worked with Keyboard and with an Xbox One controller.
Even though Psychonauts runs natively on Linux, getting the inputs to work on either my keyboard or ps4 controller was proving impossible. After forcing Proton to run, the game itself runs with no notable differences from the native version with the benefit that both my keyboard and ps4 controller work properly now. If you have no problem with your inputs I would suggest running it natively, but if you do, you could try forcing Proton on, it runs just as well as the native version for me.
Frame rate stayed between 125-140 fps regardless of how many dozens of assets were loaded, I saw no visual glitches or performance drops.
Online Play: I played co-op with a friend and so far it has worked great as well.
I didn't test:
- Gamepad support
- In-game voice controls
I would sometimes get an "Out of video memory trying to allocate a rendering resource" when opening the game. I would have to close the game and then retry launching it untill it worked. I had no notable issues after the game managed to launch.
Game was played for over 40 hours. Worked out of the box. Keeps at 50 - 60 fps regularly. I disabled E-Sync but noticed no difference. I get frame drops every now and then, but that's to be expected. I also get a black screen that lasts a couple of seconds randomly while playing, but I suspect that might be because of my configuration.
