Worked out of the box, graphically demanding, minor issues with 360 controller
I had intermittent problems with my controller (wireless Xbox 360, connecting via the official dongle). It would lose connection at random, despite fresh batteries. Restarting the game was necessary in order to reconnect. Not a big deal, only happened a handful of times in my 12 hour playthrough.
The game is very graphically demanding. Turning down the various lighting effects to a mix of low and medium was needed to get 60 fps at 1080p.
Excellent
Initially started windowed, with part of the game not visible. Toggling in-game windowing settings fixed this
Very smooth experience. Controller (Xbox 360 w/ wireless adapter) and multiplayer (co-op, invasions) work perfectly.
Very good out of the box
I'm using an Xbox 360 wireless pad. If the controller loses connection, the game freezes and has to be force-quit.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% --skip-launcher
Some textures do not load and are replaced with white boxes.
Game does not launch at all with default proton. Runs in Proton-GE but is not a good experience due to missing textures: chunks of the UI is missing, in-game letter was unreadable. Gave up part way through the tutorial.
Some stutter when moving between areas. Otherwise, smooth.
Messages and bloodstains work. Haven't tried co-op or invasions yet.
Runs really well on Proton Experimental for me. Playable framerates at 1440p, on high settings. Even my controller (xbox 360 w/ wireless adaptor) worked without any problems.
Almost perfect
Controller (Xbox 360 wireless) works for gameplay and on the main menu, but seems to disconnect when opening the in-game pause menu.
Stutters when entering a new area. Otherwise smooth performance on max settings.
Only played the FIRST mission.
Played through the full game with no real issues
The initial problems I had with controller detection didn't happen again.
To get a wireless xbox360 pad to work properly, I had to set the launch option: /UseNativeGaInput=true /UseNativeGaInputNoControllers=false
without this option the analog stick behaved as if it was held all the way to the left.
If the controller disconnects during gameplay, the game becomes completely unresponsive.
Freezes if the controller disconnects.
Native version crashes instantly if gamepad connected, but Windows version via Proton works perfectly.
I tried the native Linux version first. It crashes on the select language screen - from some online searches, there seems to be an known issue where starting the game with a controller connected causes it to crash.
Forcing the use of Proton makes the game run flawlessly. Full 1440p resolution, audio perfect, Xbox 360 controller works perfectly too.
Only issue was that I could not set the refresh rate above 60 Hz, even though my monitor goes higher than that. This could be an issue with my system config rather than the game / proton.
Works very well
I'm using a wireless xbox 360 controller. If the controller connection dropped, the game would soft-lock and had to be closed using the steam overlay. This only happened once or twice in a ~30 hr playthrough.
My comments about refresh rates in my earlier report were wrong. The game runs fine at 144 Hz and isn't limited to 60. My system config was bad.
Bad stutter in cutscenes and when moving between areas
Very heavy stutter when moving between areas.
Works well out of the box without tweaks
Missing particle effects in one area of the game (Shuttle bay): flame effects and ammo count invisible.
The game crashed a handful of times with a "memory could not be 'read'" error.
6.20-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Cinnamon taskbar wasn't hidden automatically (easily fixed by setting cinnamon to auto-hide the task bar).
Unplayable without the DXVK_ASYNC=1 launch option (the game becomes a slideshow after a few minutes).
Like all Origin games I've played, the Origin folder has to be set to read-only otherwise there is constant stutter.
With these two options, I get a steady 60 FPS on max settings during gameplay, with mild stutter in some cutscenes.
Videos are broken on vanilla proton, but work in proton-GE.
Runs very nicely once set up. Controller (Xbox 360 wireless) works perfectly.
Mostly fine out of the box, some stability problems
Opening video settings crashes the game reproducibly. Occasional crashes during play - 2 crashes in 3 hours played.
Sluggish performance and doesn't seem to run in fullscreen
Game starts windowed and will not go into fullscreen. (Cinnamon DE).
The game feels very heavy and slow compared to the Mega Drive games. Unsure if this is a Proton thing or if it is normally like that.
Game runs well but see comments re. Origin loader
The game started minimized.
The game failed to detect my Xbox 360 controller (connected via the USB wireless adapter, using xboxdrv).
It was necessary to set the Origin folder to read-only.
Once in game, I got a solid 60 fps at 1080p and max settings on my hardware
I was using a 360 controller with a wireless adapter. The controller has to be connected before launching the game. If the controller disconnects during play, the game has to be restarted in order to detect the controller again.
Ubisoft Connect is not reliable.
When I installed the game, it asked for a CD key, which Steam does not provide. Disabling all the DLC except for "WW Uplay activation", reinstalling, then restarting the game a few times got it working.
I had occasional problems with Ubisoft Connect even after I got the game installed (it would sometimes hang without opening the game).
I used these launch options:
gamemoderun %command% -eac_launcher -nosplash
Framerates were around 40 - 60 @ 1440p on my hardware. Turning down the graphics options didn't make much difference.
Runs well, only very minor issues
Graphical glitches in some cutscenes with subtitles on - random letters / symbols would briefly cover the entire screen.
Disappointing performance on my hardware given the age of the game. I had to reduce graphics settings from ultra to high in order to get a stable 60 FPS @ 1080p. Framerate on ultra settings was very unstable.
One crash in a 10-hour complete playthrough. Nothing serious.
Not related to Proton but the head-bob effect in this game gave me motion sickness, and there's no option in the menus to disable it. It can be switched off by opening the in-game console (ctrl-alt-backtick) and running "cvaradd pm_nobob 1".
I didn't notice the audio issues which others have reported.
