Game refuses to boot up in gaming mode and in docked mode.
The current demo out right now installs, but does not start on Steam Deck.
Played docked to the TV
Ubisoft connect will ask for your username and password the very first time you activate the game. There is a "Remember me" checker on the login page, but I am unsure if it will remember my account after a month, even if I play almost daily.
Might want to either turn up the brightness a little bit or play around with the screens color saturation, since a lot of this games color scheme revolves are dark browns and greens, faint blues and yellows and crushed blacks. I played this on a monitor but I would imagine things would be hard to see playing on the deck's screen.
I am honestly very impressed with Ubisoft finally coming around and supporting the Steam deck, as this was my personal most anticipated game to get deck support!
Runs perfectly out of the box with SD controls! 3rd party controllers have notable issues.
As of right now, playing with a 3rd party controller will lead to some issues. Mainly during combat, my joystick would automatically scroll past tiles i had selected with my cursor, preventing you from selecting some tiles without specific joystick movements. Additionally when activating the spell lists (also in combat), attempting to escape with B would register my input for a single frame, before flashing back to the same menu. Not recommended for play with a 3rd party remote.
It technically "runs" on Deck, but not very well. Refunded before the 2-hour mark.
Locked it to 50 FPS
The frame rate was very inconsistent, despite there being nothing demanding on-screen. Despite the FPS cap being set to 50, the highest it could reach was 42FPS and the lowest would be maybe 9-10FPS. This may sound salvageable as a turn based RPG, but unlike Slay the Spire, where you are always navigating menus, F&H2 requires you to interact with the overworld, and especially to chase or run from enemies. This low frame rate absolutely ruins for aspect for me.
If you have another PC to play this on, its probably very good. However, due to the frame rate problem that can't be ignored, I would not suggest purchasing this game if you primarily play games on Steam Deck.
Both the single player experience and Remote Play Together work on SD!
The edges of the fullscreen were being trimmed out of view a little bit. This never hid any key information or menu prompts, but would still hide letters in words shown on the left or right side, notably during the main "party" modes.
The minigames instructions and mid-party item menus display button prompts for a keyboard, even though I was playing the game through the Deck's controls the whole time. My "Remote Play Together" partner was using a keyboard and they were slotted in as Player 1, but I still don't suspect this is why that was occuring.
This was my very first "flawless" experience with setting up and hosting 'steam remote play', me only spending 40 seconds to add Player 2's keyboard to play online. FPS cap was set to 60, graphics at medium. They never experienced any input delay and were honestly doing better at the minigames than I was. Their only complaint was audio delay, but I'm sure that might be a Remote Play Together compromise. Played in handheld the whole time and the battery held up nicely as well! (Only experimented the multiplayer with one RMT friend, so I cannot comment on if you wanted to stream to 2 or 3 people.)
Works about as well as Goat Simulator on any of the last gen consoles docked and handheld. No comment on multiplayer.
A lot of crashes will occur if you select more than 2 mods to add to your goat.
The games main menu screen will be different based on which world you visited previous, which sounds cool in concept. However, if your menu screen is "Waste of Space" themed, there will be a significant slowdown in menu navigation and even a few crashes. This pushes people on steam deck into never checking out "Goat Sim: Waste of Space", which is a shame. It'd be nice if they fixed this.
Joining a Remote Play session through the Steam Deck is still rough, even a year later. I have not tried hosting a Remote Play session of my own.
If you exclusively play "Goat Simulator: Waste of Space" and avoid all of the other maps, then you will hate this port of the game, due to how slow starting up every session becomes. Otherwise, if you play a lot of single player and can handle limiting some of your goat mods, this version of Goat Sim is quite nice to have on SD
The demo runs like native on Steam Deck.
Can't wait to see the game's official release!
No significant issues on Steam Deck!
The Epic Games Launcher is somewhat involved
Missing cutscene animations aside, the fire on the flamethrower (DLC content) in particular is a texture I rarely ever see. It's annoying, especially considering that the walls and ground around you during the flamethrower attack start flickering.
Putting the Deck in sleep mode, then waking it up with the intent to use a 3rd party controller will sometimes result in buttons being pushed/held even after letting go of the input. Can be solved by reseting the Deck but still worth pointing out. Occured on my PS5 controller and an 8bitdo pro 2 gamepad
I only played in docked mode with a 3rd party controller, so I have no verdict on its handheld performance.
Unsupported on Stable (Sorry Slap Civilians!)
currently unplayable on all 3 of steam's default stable activation methods (Ex: Vulkan). Might dip my toes into beta channel later jusst for this game.
'far' render distance slows the game down noticably in the very few dense areas in the game.
game will default to 'mouse and keyboard' mode, but thankfully, there are options in the main menu to bind the controls to 'xbox 360' controls, if you would rather use the given steam deck joysticks and face buttons. L4, L5, R4, and R5 will all bind to the ABXY buttons this way. Cheers!
The lag on the jackbox side, affecting phones, but not the device.
When the Deck is left in docked mode for over 30 or so minutes, the external device's screen will frequently go dark, cutting out the video and audio. This occured about once every 15 or so seconds, not even restarting the Deck or switching to a different external display could fix the problem. Its not exclusive to any of the party games either. And yes, I was using an official Valve SD dock. I hope the Jackbox devs or Valve can repair this, since each game loses an important component of the experience without a visible host screen. If you don't use the deck in docked mode, however, then the game runs like native!
