I set my steam settings to use proton experimental for unverified games but I think this game should work with any version of proton.
I ran the game using GE proton because that is my default Wine version on Heroic, as far as I can tell the game should also work with Valve’s Proton.
I only used GE Proton to run the game because when I first tried playing the game it ran poorly on my pc and I thought I needed to use FSR to run the game, but then I found Vsync didn’t work at the time and turning down Max frame rate improved my performace. The videos also don’t get saved to the actual desktop folder due to the way Proton works, this issue can only be fixed if a native version of the game is realsed.

Experienced a lot of screen screen tearing when using valve’s proton. I did not experience any screen tearing when using GE-proton.
Only used Ge Proton as I played the game using heroic games launcher, I think this game should run perfectly on any Proton version
When I tried using native version the game would not launch.
I set my steam settings to use proton experimental for unverified games but I think this game should work with any version of proton.
For some reason the developer has marked the game as being available on Windows, macOs and Linux but has not put the uploaded any files for the linux version could be the same for macOs version as well. If you try to run the game without forcing the use of proton steam will display an error saying that the executable is missing, but if you force the use of proton the game will run perfectly.
On the native version full screen does not work properly, using Proton the game works perfectly
When tabbed out of them game and switch back to it the game became a tiny window with a black box around it. On the native version of the game when I set it to full screen (native) in the settings, the game would be a different resolution to my monitor and the game does not have an option to change game resolution.
Game does not launch without tinkering and would also randomly crash without custom launch options, otherwise works just as well as running

I think the random crashes I had were due to my Nvidia graphics card, should work without issues when using GE-proton with an AMD graphics card.
I recommend this tutorial for installing GE-proton: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0a9UsXffb3s&t=2s
The prologue can still be played using valve’s proton however the cutscene showing the title when entering the hospital will not work and will just show the hospital with coloured squares coving parts of screen, this cutscene is not important to the game and it can still be enjoyed without using GE-proton. Also the game is made using unity so hopefully there will be a native linux version when the game is released.

I had use FSR to get the game to run well enough to be playable. If you have a better GPU then me this game should run perfectly out of the box.
I experienced some crackling was the music but it was not too distracting or loud.
The tutorial videos do not display when using Valve’s proton, the videos not displaying does not make the game unplayable but it does make the experience worse. The game also currently lags when you have lots of people on the space station, this is an issue with the game rather than Proton and should hopefully be fixed in a future update.
Game runs perfectly
I did experience some issues some trouble with the lighting in the sixth area but that seems to be fixed now with the latest update.
I used experimental as I have it set to use it for unverified titles, but I would expect this game to work with any version of proton
Native version runs perfectly
Online multiplayer worked perfectly
When using native version the logos that are shown before the title did not shown and only showed blank backgrounds that I had to skip through. The first cutscene froze halfway through but I was still able to open up the game's settings, I just wasn't able to do anything in game, which was very odd.
Making another report after beating the game as there is a single section of the game that seems to only work on Proton 6.3-8
Not sure why the one section would only work on Proton 6.3-8 but when game tried to load area when I was on Proton Experimental or GE-Proton the game would freeze and I could only seem to close by force quitting through the steam client, my only guess on why this happened is that it could be something to do with how they did the 3D graphics for the section. Could also be something with my OS as there is another report that claims the game worked perfectly for them when using Proton 5.0-7, which when I tried using and the game wouldn't even launch for me, so it could be worth a shot trying to play another proton version if you aren't using an Arch based disto and don't already have Proton 6.3-8 installed .
I did also experience a few bugs with the game however I believe they were either intentional bugs or actual bug with the game rather than an issue with Proton.
Added mods
I found the easiest way to play with mods is to use r2modman.
To be able to mod Lethal Company r2modman needs to be on at version 3.1.45 or else it won’t show up on the list of games, so if you can’t find the game try waiting a bit for the program to automatically download a new version of the program.
Also if r2modman crashes as it loads and you have the program as an AppImage try opening a terminal in the location you have the program saved in and launching it using this command
“./r2modman-[VersionNumber].AppImage –no-sandbox”
replacing [VersionNumber] with the numbers that follow the name of the program.
The frist time I tried switching from Proton 7.0-5 to GE-Proton 7.43-6 the game deleted my save file, I have not been able to replicate this bug. It might not even of been because of switching Proton versions, but I thought I would add this to the report just in case it was.
The game has a slight drop in fps for a second when loading an area. The fps drop happens a lot in the Coral Ocean area, I'm guessing this is because of the way the game moves the islands around in this area.
I ran this game with GE-Proton just in case it helped with the fps drop when loading an area, but from what I've tested running both Valve's Proton and GE-Proton there doesn't seem to be any advantage of using GE-Proton over Valve's Proton when running this game.
Game would show the controller for keyboard when I was using controller, this only caused issues for navigating the menu as I didn’t know what buttons to press. I suspect this is an issue on heroic or my system and this issue probably won’t happen on steam.
I played through the game using GE Proton which worked perfectly wasn’t sure if valve’s proton would work well because of another report I saw for this game. After beating the game I did try switching to Proton 7.0-6, and it does seem like cutscenes work now, so I think the game should work perfectly without tinkering now.
Used Wine-GE because I ran the game using heroic
Only used Ge Proton as I played the game using heroic games launcher, I think this game should run perfectly on any Proton version
Game runs perfectly using native version
The game does take a while to launch however I suspect this due to my system rather than a problem with the game.
Apart from rare audio crackling on game launch game runs perfectly using proton, unplayable on native version
Sometimes when loading the main menu there can be a bit of audio crackling.
When using native version there is a lot of graphical issues and game is completely unplayable.
I set my steam settings to use proton experimental for unverified games but I think this game should work with any version of proton.
The native version doesn't save settings and launches on a weird resolution, settings are saved on on proton version
-vulkan
Without using -vulkan launch option the game takes a very long time to launch, I also use GE-proton as that gives me a few extra fps
Does not launch without GE-Proton, works perfectly using GE-Proton, with some very minor issues that can easily be ignored
Experienced some audio crackling but it happens very rarely and only last for a very short time.
Experienced some very minor lag during launch when going onto the main menu and when going into the first battle after launch, all issues does leave a negative impact on the experience and can be easily ignored.
Apart from audio crackling on music loops game works perfectly
Experienced some cracking when the music track looped, the amount of cracking was be different with each loop.
Experienced a bit of lag when opening the shop menu up for the first time after launching the game.
Game runs perfectly on X11 but not on Wayland
When running the game on Wayland black flickering black bars appear on the screen when in the facility. This is not an issue on X11.
For some reason my steam controller would be detected unless I turned it on once the game was on the main menu.
The game crashed after the credits
The issues I had running the game on Wayland should hopefully be fixed once Proton has Wayland version instead of using Xwayland. These issues should also not be present for people who do not use an Nvidia GPU.
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 WINEFSYNC_FUTEX2=0 %command%
Steam controller is not detected if turned on after launching the game, not sure if this it is the same for all controllers, I have only tried with the steam controller
Local multiplayer worked perfectly
When using any other proton version other than Proton 6.3-8 the game would have a massive fps drop during a boss fight and become completely unplayable.
I haven't finished the game yet so there could be other issues that I haven't found yet, but this configuration has worked for up to the 2nd area of the game which how far I have made it so far.
The games runs almost flawlessly apart from some minor issues that do not ruin the experience
During the opening cutscene there is some crackling during the loudest parts of the track, this does not happen anywhere else in the game and does not ruin the expreince.
The game lags quite after loading into the game for a few minutes, but after that it runs perfectly.
