If you use the GOG release with Heroic like me, install the Windows version of the game. Native Linux version could not start because it did not find the libcrypto version it was expecting. It is too much hassle to make it work when the Windows version with Proton works great. I only tried Proton 8.0 because it has no issue. I don't own the Steam release to test.
