native launches, proton does not
when running native, i can select songs and whatnot and actually get it to generate a track, but it does not play audio or let me start moving ive tried countless proton versions and none have worked (all crashing on startup) these issues pop up regardless of whether i use the community patch or not
works perfectly fine
a few weeks back i posted a borked report and ive now gotten the game working the most i will say is kde neon seems to be incredibly hit or miss for proton support
indistinguishable from windows
was a little laggy on my hardware but that was to be expected, it does the same on windows
a little less performant than on windows, but in my experience it was fine. ive had friend who have had horrible slowdowns, though thats not relevant here
works just like windows
ive seen first-hand that everyone has a vastly different experience with proton on raft so your mileage may vary, terms and conditions apply, see in store for details, all that stuff
without tinkering, you can probably get away with running on 9.0-4, but that didnt work for me (hence my use of 7.0-6, most likely just an edge case) other than that, i have had zero problems
runs better than windows
zero tinkering, zero problems, better performance. absolute win/win
idk if this is just the game in general but its overall just very quiet (ill update this if and when i give it a try on windows to see if thats just how the game is)
my experience here was in a 3 player lobby, so it could be worse with more (some reports say 8+ gets a little messy)
broke out of nowhere
no updates, no proton change, just broke after i had played it on windows for a few days could possibly be a kernel thing, ill give it another try some other time
this was an absolute hassle to get running again, i wouldnt suggest it unless you have like 30 minutes to set aside and REALLY want to fish again
for me, the effort was worth it, it may not be the same for you
tldr:
- install steam for windows from the lutris website (https://lutris.net/games/steam/)
- set up steam and run steam.exe via winetricks if lutris didnt autostart it
- locate (or install) webfishing
- dont bother porting your save file, itll most likely not work
- click play and return to your life of fishing
