Game Very Laggy on Launch and in Opening Gameplay
Very low framerate on title screen and in first gameplay prompt.
Game Prone to Crash After Random Battle Encounter; No Autosave Means Save Frequently
Found some graveyard-type dungeon east of the first town the player encounters. I expected background music since it played in other areas, but I only got silence.
Game crashed after completing a random encounter battle in the aforementioned graveyard dungeon.
This game has pre-defined yet unknown location save points throughout the world, so it was a big turn off for me to continue playing this game after the first crash and reload to find twenty minutes of progress undone.
Game Prone to Crash Before Key Battle
Game crashed as the 2nd boss battle was starting.
Did not try out reloading from a save due to time constraints. The save points in this game are pre-defined and the ones immediately preceding the first and second boss battles are very far apart, so I was lucky that I hit a save point just before the game crashed; otherwise, I think fifteen minutes of game progress would've gone to waste.
Is Stable but Has No Music; Has Few Localization Errors
No background music ever played.
At some point before the start of Chapter 1 after I went through the flaming tower, I decided to look at the upgradeable Skills available to my characters; but when I looked, some Skill names were in Italian, even though I was playing in English.
I used an XBox One controller over a wired connection for input. When launching the game for the first time on a 4K display, the apparent window size will be very small. Press the B button when in-game after the first dialogue to access the Options > Video > Enable Fullscreen.
Unable to launch the game
I was unable to launch the game using the latest Proton @ 8.0-3 or Experimental at the time, and I wasn't able either to use older versions of Proton per reports here to load the game.
On each of five different Proton versions from 5.0-x to current, the game would launch, a small beige loading window would appear, and then the game would crash and stop.
I appear up-to-date on GPU drivers, and WineHQ as of this post appears to have nothing on the game with respect to workarounds, and I'm not savvy enough to figure this out on my own.
I was looking forward to playing this game... Oh well.
Game Played After Client-Specific Troubleshooting
I previously submitted a borked report for this game while troubleshooting a failure to start this game. I was able to remedy it via restarting the computer, albeit despite having already followed along to basic troubleshooting procedures, I don't know the root cause of my games running laggy under certain circumstances.
Nevertheless, in implementing that remedy that has me playing games shortly after logging in to the computer, I was able to load this game successfully using Proton 8.0-3 and play the game to completion without issue.
Pink Video Filter When Ran Natively on Pop!_OS; Used Proton 7.0-1 to Solve Problem
Pink video filter when run natively; no graphics issues on Proton 7.0-1
No issues with singleplayer gameplay of custom levels on both native and through Proton layer. Could not run the game natively (i.e. without forcing a Steam Play compatibility layer) without any graphical issues as summarized above.
Game Runs Without Issue; Press Y to Apply Settings
Played using an Xbox One controller over wired USB connection. When I launched the game for the first time to change the resolution to match my display, pressing the A button as prompted on-screen to apply my settings did not work; pressing the Y button, however, did.
Could not comment on save games due to playtesting this from the "Start Game" rather than a save file.
Worked Without Issue After System Updates
For context, on my client, prior to updating my system, I noticed that all of my games, including this game, were running at very low framerates for some reason; so after getting up-to-date in my distro's app store, I was able to launch and play the game at a normal framerate.
Game Runs Through Level 3 Without Issue Through Proton 7.0-1; For Controller Input, Manually Enable through In-Game Options
Controller used: Xbox One over wired USB connection Notes:
- Steam detected controller and loaded a generic gamepad configuration for this game. The game also detected it and I was able to navigate the main menu to start the game.
- However, I wasn't able to look or move around using the controller (keyboard was OK). Controller input was DISABLED, so I enabled it by entering the Escape Menu -> Options -> Controller and enabling controller input.
- "Time-travel" controls for controller were not presented in cutscenes in first three levels. Fiddled around and discovered.
- Further, those controls are not available outside the Default button layout, nor are they selectable options in the Custom button layout. For reference, DPad UP records movement, Dpad LEFT stops recording, and DPad RIGHT plays back the last recording.
I could not comment on the save game aspect of this game as I had limited time to play the game. When I next play this game, I'll report back on if reloading from a save worked OK.
Game ver. 1.146 Runs Natively Without Issue
Some small notes:
- On launch, a window appears saying the game isn't responding, but the game otherwise loads normally and reaches the login menu. Clicking "Wait" makes the window go anyway and the game loads.
- As a general note, when loading the game for the first time on a 4K display, the initially loaded window will be small. When the game finishes loading and displays the login menu, make sure to click "Options" and then enable fullscreen. You can then easily change the resolution to the maximum 1440p display available in 16:9 or 16:10.
