I used the tweaks listed in MR.RYS337's report and the game (and flashlight) work perfectly.
In order to make this game run without mods, you need to choose "Software Rendering" in the launcher. There is some artifacting associated with this, but it's perfectly playable.

I used Proton 6.16 Glorious Eggroll (Proton-6.16-GE-1) and the game ran without any issues.

I started this game on Windows 10, but became fed up with unrelated Windows issues and decided to switch to Linux after about 3 hours of playtime. It runs identically on Linux; which, after the patch released recently, is basically perfect (some pop-in and a few other glitches are present, but those existed in Windows as well). As of 7/29/21, this game is essentially unplayable with Proton Experimental, so be sure to change it to version 6.3-5 for an essentially native experience!
Works perfectly as far as I can tell.
When I used Proton 7.0-1, the game would not allow me to sign in with my Microsoft account, rendering it unplayable. Proton Experimental allowed me to login and play the game.

You must use Proton Glorious Eggroll in order to have fully functional audio.
Works Perfectly on Newest Version of Proton
Alt-Tabbing out of the game will kill it.
The audio degradation of the past has been fixed in the newest version of Steam Proton. The only problem I've encountered since is that when Alt-Tabbing out of the game, it will often just close. Otherwise the experience has been just the same as on Windows.
The game worked very well. Just follow the instructions Alex and others mentioned to fix the cut scenes.
Certain cut scenes in this game do not automatically play (you will be left at a black screen with music playing). To fix this, use the following command Alex mentioned in his review: protontricks 538680 amstream quartz lavfilters Alternatively, just press the ENTER key upon getting stuck at the black screens that result from this bug.
In my 80+ hours of game play, on 3 occasions when saving, the game crashed; that said, each save that resulted in a crash was successful, so I never lost any progress.
