Works flawlessly without any tweaking. Online Co-Op Campaign is a go!
This isn't a Proton problem, but worth mentioning that the Match Making servers are no longer up for this game, but you can still invite friends and play. Go hunt some bugs!
Works great, be sure to disable the Steam Overlay
Before starting the game for the first time, be sure to disable the Steam Overlay, otherwise once at the start screen hitting Shift+Tab will freeze the game when trying to get the key notification to hide.
Ubisoft Connect does like to linger after quitting the game requiring a manual Stop.
Other than that, fantastic experience.
Finally works out of the box with Multiplayer!
Played both Custom Match and public Multiplayer, worked great! Was able to join and finishes matches with no problems.
Requires custom version of Proton, Campaign Public/Private and Versus over LAN are the only things available at this time.
Rename the EasyAntiCheat folder ie. ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Gears5/GearGame/Binaries/Steam/EasyAntiCheat
Campaign Public and Private Online work. Versus, Horde and Escape however, will not allow you to join or create public or private sessions due to Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC). You will get an error immediately when starting the match/session.
Versus over LAN works without issue. Other modes do not offer LAN as an option.
Note on Campaign: Gears 5 doesn't distinguish between a single player run through versus a online run through. The campaign is meant to be joinable/ready to send invites anytime during play.
The mouth movements would get stuck in a loop and audio would get out o sync, to fix add WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n,b"
to the launch options.
Adding DXVK_ASYNC=1
to the launch options fixed stuttering on camera angle changes and scene switching.
I am currently using these launch options in full: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n,b" DXVK_ASYNC=1 gamemoderun %command%
Just wanted to thank the protondb community, I couldn't have found these answers without the previous reports.
Small reminder that Feral Interative's GameMode is needed to use gamemoderun
.
Updated Report: Requires WINDLLOVERRIDES and a Proton version with ASYNC compiled in DXVK for the game to be playable.
Proton-6.20-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Proton-6.20-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Mouth animations would loop the first frame.
New scenes and camera angle changes causes the game to stutter making quick action scenes difficult to play, and there are a lot of them.
Reason for update from previous report
I had a misunderstanding of how DXVK_ASYNC=1
worked. You need a version of proton that has ASYNC compiled into DXVK, both stable and experimental versions of Steam's Proton do not have this currently, but GloriousEggroll's custom proton does. My previous testing of the game after adding this to the launch options appeared to work because the game has the shaders cached so during a replay of any scene the stuttering appears to have been fixed, but new scenes would still have the stuttering issue.
Fixes for mouth animations looping
Simply adding WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n,b"
to the launch options fixes the mouth animations.
Fixes for stuttering
This is a bit more complicated, you'll need to install GloriousEggroll's custom proton and then add DXVK_ASYNC=1
to the launch options.
The final launch options line
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n,b" DXVK_ASYNC=1 gamemoderun %command%
Reminder that gamemoderun
requires Feral Interactive's GameMode.
Runs perfectly out of the box for single player, but if you'd like to play multiplayer you'll need to install the game with Proton 4.11-13.
Great visuals and sound, runs smooth. Shame the live action episodes crash out the game.
I had to turn off Vsync in the game options to mitigate stutter.
After the end of the Junctions when the live action episodes are supposed to play the game will crash (abruptly close out). You continue right where you left off without a problem on restart. If you want to watch the series episodes, YouTube or the like is your best bet there.
Works perfectly out of the box with a fresh Proton 6.3-4 setup
Rockstar is not entirely known for amazingly stable games, and sometimes it can be extremely hard to pinpoint if you are having a Proton issue or experiencing a problem with the game itself. I have spent an incredible amount of time with this game, including long sessions (5+ hours). The last problem I had was the game freezing like clockwork after 2 hours. After resetting my prefix, everything works flawless for those long sessions.
Works great after patching to remove GfWL, use Proton 5.0-10, and install WMP11. Gamepad and multiplayer are a go!
Patch to remove Games for Windows Live: Maluc's bh5fixes
Install Windows Media Player 11:
protontricks 21690 -q wmp11
This game has been the most finicky thus far, but I am just now a year into gaming on Linux/PC. But the good news is, it does run great, and you can totally play through co-op.
Here's a quick rundown of how to get this game going:
Don't run the game yet after you downloaded it.
- Change Proton compatibility to Proton 5.0-10
- Download Maluc's Resident Evil 5 Fixes to patch Games for Windows Live and replace the files in your Resident Evil 5 install directory.
- Run the game once, you'll have to quit it manually, it'll get stuck on a black screen after the CAPCOM/Dolby Digital Screens. This is to get the Proton prefix setup.
- Run
protontricks 21690 -q wmp11
to fix video codecs. - Run the game again and smile.
I thoroughly enjoy playing this co-op, which works like you'd expect using Steam. I play with an Xbox Elite 2 controller.
Works fantastically out of the box with gamepad and crossplay!
Played with PC and Xbox friends in a single crew. Works marvelously.
Runs perfectly out of the box
The game launches and displays the starting window with out a problem (no more black screen and guessing where to click to start) using Proton 6.3-4. Choosing Vulkan, the game runs, multiplayer co-op campaign and Horde works as expected. Haven't tried Score Attack just yet.
