Limit FPS to 60
I using bazzite based in fedora 41 and is playable in multiplayer, all good

Almost loads
I get 2 seconds into the blue "XBOX Studios" before it crashes
Иногда долго загружается.
Finally! Works out of the box.

Other than forcing Proton Experimental (I didn't try it without). It worked perfectly. I didn't have to add any flags or mess about with EAC. Just installed and hit play.

encountered flickering detail textures (like rust and cracks) once
Slowness mostly during startup and occasionally in menus
Significant delay causes unfair deaths, but I believe that's there in the native windows and xbox versions.
Works well but with occasional dealbreaking graphical artifacts.
When starting, Steam says it is installing the anti cheat engine and microsoft distributable. Then the game never launches.

Doesn't run on the RT-kernel, Zen-kernel has been used for this game.
I cheezed the bossfights to beat this game lmao

I have been playing this game online for years. This experience was flawless out of the box.
I've been playing gears since gears 2 This experience is flawless. I can't believe I'm playing gears 5 multi-player at 60fps on a handheld. This game should be labeled as platinum by proton DB or Gold at the very least.
Va perfecto: instalar y jugar.

Worked fine without any configuration needed after install.

Online multiplayer works fine, online co-op did not. Likely Teredo related, but I was unable to play co-op with a player on Windows.

Really good game, I love playing horde with other online gamers
Sometimes during online matches I'd eventually encounter an annoying 1 or 2 second freeze. It's too small to really affect any gameplay but it's still annoying.
I had bad hopes for this game since I'd previously tried to play with Pop! OS without any succes, but I was able to play it with only a little annoying occasional stutter. It didn't affect my match.

My gaming experience on Gears 5 has been as expected. Multiplayer has not been an issue!
Split Screen Co-Op worked as expected out the box. Zero tinkering required.
I use Proton GE by default because it just simply makes everything work. I haven't bothered to try with regular proton simply because I don't use it. This game launched out the box without issues, and performs as one might expect it too on Windows. I was truly surprised to see it was only "silver" rated; as on my Arch Linux PC it plays as if it were "PLATINUM!".

The game hangs while starting up with the latest Proton.
This game works on Steam Deck now.

I was able to play 1-2 hours, but the game crashes regularly and is therefore poorly playable.

Game stuck during launch but not viewable
The game seems to install correctly using Steam, but isn't visible.

EAC is now running thanks to the latest update to the game. Just did a session of 2 hours only in multiplayer and had no crashes and no kicks.
For what concerns only the multiplayer (not talking about the campaign in this context), the only issue that I have is that only with Proton 7 it works (at the date of this report) for me, but the reason why it does not work with Proton 8 and Experimental has been already found in the GitHub issue page (read here: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/3042#issuecomment-1609142524).
You can try to opt in in Proton Experimental Bleeding Edge in the beta settings, since it should have the right patches that allow to play in multiplayer.
However, for me both Proton 8 and Experimental make the game crash at startup with a Wine Assertion Failed, so for the moment I just stick with Proton 7.
I haven't tried the singleplayer campaign yet, but it should work without any problems.
Single player campaign works quite well. EAC notices will pop up when you initialy launch but can be dismissed.
Does not start with Proton7/Experimental, had to use GE-proton just to start the game, EAC fails to load and hence online experience is not avialable

EAC doesn't work but single player worked fine
Remove EAC folder, rename exe, and replace dll
High chance of soft locking when entering main menu from launch, also when creating lobby for singleplayer (multiplayer doesn't work due to EAC)
The game crash on launch with the latest vkd3d. Use older version of Proton (such as 7.0-4) to fix this.
Follow steps here https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/3042#issuecomment-1046904681 and use Proton 7.0-4 to get singleplayer to work.

This game is now broken
This game used to run fine after the EAC folder fix, now it freezes after the Gears 5 splash screen.
It used to be able to load without EAC just for the main single-player campaign. That no longer works. Now it just does not load at all.
Rename/delete EAC folder
Randomly the audio (vioce, music, or effects; never all of them at the same time) was playing extremely soft, with what seemed like a per channel issue. It was hard to notice and only seemed to occur when the game had a lot going on audio wise.
Proton EAC is not supported
I was able to play this game and it stopped working. After a lot of messing around (drivers, kernels, etc), it's was the existing game files. Do the following if you have this issue:
-Manually delete the game folder -Search within the root of the steam library folder for '1097840' and delete the two folders and the appmanifest file -Close/open steam and enjoy the 120gb download
GE-Proton7-21 through -23 does not work. I initially launch the game on GE-Proton7-5 then switch to -20 for the rest of the gameplay. Might not be required.
The single player campaign works with Proton GE after renaming EasyAntiCheat folder. Does not launch with standard Proton or Experimental.
120+ fps high-ultra settings 1440p ultrawide (without "min fps" enableed). Sometimes fps suddenly drops, I think mainly after next level loading, until the game is restarted. Probably not a Linux issue, there is a similar bug described in PCGW.
Another weird thing I encountered is that the game was not launching after I killed it via Steam during benchmark run. Rebooting and deleting some cache files in the game dirs did not help, had to reinstall the game.
Renaming the Easy Anti Cheat Folder
It freezes fairly often not in game but usually within the main menu have to kill the process.
the game plays fine offline the only issues is it freezes often when either starting a game or leaving a game.
Had to rename EAC
MP not working
You just need to rename or delete the EAC folder.

Renaming EasyAntiCheat folder
The EAC workaround used to work at some point, but now game just crashes one second into the splash screens
Renamed EAC folder. Right click game and choose Manage -> Browse Local Files. Then navigate to GearGame/Binaries/Steam. Change name of folder "EasyAntiCheat", I went with "EasyAntiCheat2"
I don't know if I had to switch to Proton GE, when I switched proton versions it behaved the same until I renamed the folder.
Did not work even with tinkering
Renaming the EAC folder and using Proton-GE did not work for me. I get an error that it cant find the EAC settings.

Requires custom version of Proton, Campaign Public/Private and Versus over LAN are the only things available at this time.
Rename the EasyAntiCheat folder ie. ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Gears5/GearGame/Binaries/Steam/EasyAntiCheat
Campaign Public and Private Online work. Versus, Horde and Escape however, will not allow you to join or create public or private sessions due to Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC). You will get an error immediately when starting the match/session.
Versus over LAN works without issue. Other modes do not offer LAN as an option.
Note on Campaign: Gears 5 doesn't distinguish between a single player run through versus a online run through. The campaign is meant to be joinable/ready to send invites anytime during play.
gamemoderun mangohud %command%
Renamed the directory ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Gears5/GearGame/Binaries/Steam/EasyAntiCheat so the game couldn't find it
EAC is unsupported. Can play singleplayer if EAC is disabled.
Works on GE-Proton7-3.
I did have to rename the EasyAntiCheat folder in the game directory to get the game to launch properly, though GE-Proton typically does this for you. (likely just my system being weird).
Was able to play all of the tutorial at a smooth 60 fps. The initial game load does take awhile, likely due to shader compliation.
This does disable EAC, so online multiplayer is not likely to work, however I was able to sign into my Xbox account without issue when starting the game.
