Crashing gets more and more frequent as the game goes on.
During chapter 16 (there are 18 chapters, so at the end of the game), there is a weird bug after you fall into a cave where you absolutely cannot look in a certain specific direction without the game crashing. I've tried running different versions of proton, reloading an earlier save, waiting 5+ minutes standing still to let the game load everything, and I can't figure out the problem. If you avoid looking in that direction you can progress a little, but soon you're walking sideways to avoid looking at it and still end up crashing. I suspect it's an unloaded asset within render distance of the player fucking things up.
Runs with no tinkering
Minor audio issues, but this is due to the game itself, NOT proton/linux.
My report says experimental because I always run experimental by default.
Crashes when loading with newest update
The most recent update as of 25. June added multiplayer, which I suspect has something to do with the crashes and inability to load. Have tried multiple Proton versions, no luck.
I've played 58 hours and the game always worked fine up till now. Will remove this if/when the problem is fixed. (If you can read this, it's not working.)
Lag when vault opens & when briefcase is picked up, but that's about it.
Steam overlay doesn't work at all, no idea why. Bottles doesn't fix the issue either. The game is 100% playable without the overlay though, BUT it means you can't replace the absolutely horrific crosshair (plain white dot), since all mods use steam overlay. It also makes the in game cosmetic store unavailable, but that's not really an issue for me.
gamescope -f -e -w 1920 -h 1080 -W 1920 -H 1080 -- %command%
Lag when vault opens and when the briefcase is picked up.
Easy anticheat causes steam overlay to not work, which means custom crosshair mods are unavailable (and they are 100% necessary IMO). It also breaks the in game cosmetic store, but that's not a huge deal.
FPS drops due to forced motion blur
Since QOL on this game is so bad (no respawns, no saves), crashing is an even bigger problem than usual.
Even though it's playable, I'd skip it. The enemy AI isn't well designed and can see you even if you're hiding, so you're gonna die a lot. After you've learned the game and aren't dying anymore, you'll start crashing instead. It's an interesting game but it needs a lot of work.
I always rebind WASD to ESDF, and some games make you hunt for the config file and do it manually. For this game E wouldn't bind to 'up', so I had to do it myself.
This game has the worst, most confusing config file I've ever seen, and I do this a lot. FYI for anyone remapping keys: You have to first remap the key to something other than default or else it won't even show up in the config file for you to edit it to what you want it to be.
The file looks like this (lol): https://i.imgur.com/TEmQSRt.png
Don't alt tab. The screen will be black when you try to resume play.
Multiplayer is dead, and the game requires you to play multiplayer.
No significant bugs for the average user; I'm just mad after struggling through that horrific rebinding experience only to refund anyway due to #deadgame. Ugh.
I don't see how this is ranked platinum. Newer proton versions are terrible with this game, so you have to switch to an older one.
Sometimes alt-tabbing will bring you back to a black screen and the game will crash.
VERY choppy framerate until I switched to an older proton
Occasional crashing when tabbing back into the game.
-heapsize 1572864 +exec user.cfg
Launch options were to force the game to look at my edited conf file (wider FOV among other things). The vanilla game works fine with absolutely no tinkering.
Alt tabbing is really finnicky, you have to alt-tab like 3 or 4 times in a row while clicking off the game before it works properly. Additionally, sometimes the game doesn't have sound or launches in a resolution 1/4th of my screen size (1920x1080), but alt tabbing fixes that.
The game only crashed on me maybe twice over 75 hours.
Couldn't progress past the first area due to a bug
Couldn't progress past the first area of the game due to a bug where the wrong screen resolution results in hover tooltips not being clickable or straight up not appearing in the first place. Unsure if this is a proton problem or the game itself.
Sometimes your mouse and/or the screen just freezes. This usually happens at class selection and is fixed by alt tabbing out once or twice.
Too much crashing to be a good experience. The game is fun but the devs need to support us or it's not worth it.
-high
5.13-6 only works if game is set to full screen (launch game, change to full screen, quit and change proton). Proton 6.3-8 and 7.0-4 both work, but with those the game crashes about every other loading screen. This game HATES loading screens, so save often. Using -high in steam launch options has made no difference, and none of the GE proton versions help either.
5.13-6 only works if game is set to full screen (launch game, change to full screen, quit and change proton). This is the most stable proton version to use. I was not even able to launch the game with 5.13-6 before changing to full screen and retrying.

You CAN play this, but it's somewhat annoying. Get it on sale if you're still determined you want to play this game.
No longer playable
Game used to launch and play just fine with some of the older tweaks mentioned here. Previous proton/GE versions worked well out of the box. This is no longer the case. Regardless of which proton version you change to, the game cannot be launched.
Game freezes while connecting
I've tried six different proton versions along with GE and still can't get this to work. It either doesn't detect input at all (the main menu says 'press any key to start'), or on certain proton versions it did work, but then got stuck at "connection in progress": https://i.imgur.com/u4zsaG9.jpg which comes up immediately after you press a key. That's as far as I got.
Additionally there was no sound whatsoever. Maybe loading screens/menu just don't have sound in this game, but IMO it's bugged.
Game has some bugs typical of an indie game by 1 dev, but overall works great
Occasional crashes, also when joining a lobby you will sometimes have a weird sideways screen. Imo this is a problem with the game itself, not proton.
Can't enter a match
"The supplied credentials are invalid." I tried switching to GE-Proton8-11 as well, but no luck.
It's a decent game but the constant crashing makes it very hard to enjoy.
Alt-tab results in the window becoming inactive, requiring a reboot
Frame drops in cutscenes & combat
Crashes every ~15 minutes
Works, but there is a bug with one "ending"
There is a certain "ending" (death) that gets triggered in this game for linux users in a way that doesn't happen for windows users. It's unintended and therefore frustrating.
SPOILERS AHEAD: you're supposed to get a warning when jumping around that you're not allowed to peak into other stalls. If you click "I can't be stopped" the tentacle spawns and kills you. On linux this does not happen. Instead, the tentacle just randomly spawns after you've jumped near the stalls, leading to frustration because you feel like you can't explore without dying. There is no warning message at all for linux players.
I only noticed the discrepancy after watching someone play it on youtube, and they never once had a random tentacle encounter without a warning.
The game is playable, but the bug I mentioned with the ending is something I would consider "significant" in that it impedes progress. Windows players get a warning not to do that or they'll die, linux players just die out of nowhere with no idea why. If you're reading this then you know about the problem. Now maybe you can avoid it and enjoy the game.
Occasional problems with FPS, but overall works great
As another report says, somewhat choppy FPS at times. It's an old game on an old engine though, so this is to be expected. I've found restarting the game can solve this issue for a good while.
As mentioned, there are occasional issues with FPS. This game can't be played without online multiplayer though, and everything else works fine.
At the time of writing, I've logged 688 hours in this game. If there were any major problems, by this point I'd have experienced them.
