I played some of the campaign and a couple of multiplayer matches. So far I have had no issues with the game.
To get the game to work I entered in these commands into the terminal. (m -r "${HOME}/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/105450") (WINEPREFIX=${HOME}/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/105450/pfx/ winetricks d3dx9 mfc42 winxp l3codecx corefonts)
Overall the game runs well. I played for about 3 hours and did not experience any crashes or glitches.
Game runs perfectly fine, but the play editor only seems to work in directx 9 mode. I tested the season mode as well as played a few games without any problems.
Using winetricks I was able to get the game to work perfectly. I was able to fix the error where the graphics would glitch if the map was zoomed out, as well as fixed the error where the entire world would disappear upon researching the calendar or zooming out to the global view. I did not experince a single crash after tweaking the install, and was able to start several games on every map type without any issues. I played a full game from start to finish on a random map as well as try out a few of the Beyond the Sword scenarios such as Broken star or Final Frontier Mod. The game appears to work just like on windows after implementing the tweak. I did not test multiplayer.
The tweak requires that you first install winetricks by typing into the terminal "sudo apt install winetricks" Then after installing winetricks copy the following command into the terminal: "WINEPREFIX=${HOME}/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/8800/pfx/ winetricks d3dx9 msxml3 msxml4 vcrun2003 quartz devenum corefonts lucida tahoma". It may take a few minutes for winetricks to configuring the games install.
There are some minor texture and shadow issues as well as an issue preventing the game from properly exiting. But the game seems to be playable as most of the issues are cosmetic and don't affect game play.
Game worked fine without any tweaks. Average FPS was around 190-200. The game now has good performance in battles.
Appears to run without any major issues. The game ran at a solid 75FPS with occasional dips when loading into a battle or exiting a battle. I did not try linking the game with facebook, as I do not have an account nor did I try to purchase any to make any in game purchases.
The game lacks the ability to change the resolution, so to play the game you have to set your computers resolution to 800x600. This is also an issue on windows and is fixed by forcing a resoltuion of 800x600 in the compatibility settings. The game could also be played using a virtual desktop, but it appears that virtual desktops only work in regular wine and not proton. Once the desktop resolution is changed the game plays perfectly fine when using proton.
Game works pretty well without any tweaking. I played some career mode and some quick games. The audio and graphics are the same as what you would see when running the game on windows. I did not test multiplayer due to no one else being online at the time of testing the game.
It is possible to enter in a name, just highlight the existing text and delete it. The game runs ok overall but their are some minor graphical glitches that are annoying.
took a while to load for the first time, but once in game the performance was good. I tested out the tutorial and the time trial mode. I was unable to test multiplayer due no one being online to play against.
I tested the game using both a gamepad, and a regular mouse and keyboard. I had no issues at all, and was able to maintain a solid 60fps while playing.
Played it for a while, Everything seemed to work fine. The game was able to maintain a constant frame rate of 75 FPS.
Ran perfectly while playing a multiplayer game, and a few rounds of capture the flag. It does work without tweaking the game settings but the performance is poor. The game runs best if you go to the UT2004.INI and change [Engine.Engine] RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice ;RenderDevice=D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice ;RenderDevice=Engine.NullRenderDevice ;RenderDevice=OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice to
[Engine.Engine] ;RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice ;RenderDevice=D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice ;RenderDevice=Engine.NullRenderDevice RenderDevice=OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice
Changing the game to use openGL more than trippled the framerate, going from around 40-50 FPS with some stuttering using directX to around 150-180FPS while using openGL.
