Classic Rez runs super smooth, just as good as on Windows. Unfortunately Area X is unplayable though.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%
Only in Area X, experienced unplayable framrates (2-3 FPS) partway through.
Overal reasonably playable. Classic Rez is great. Area X is unplayable after the first couple levels.

In the case of AreaX, the Steam Deck controller was only partially detected, making it difficult to start it as RB did not respond. Fixed it by changing the controller profile and reverting to the original one. Can be replicated, but not every single time.
Aside from the controller problem mentioned above, the game runs perfectly well on Steam Deck at 60fps.
Everything has worked out of the box on Steam Deck, however, they may notice a slowdown, so they should disable v-sync to fix this
Turn off V-sync, otherwise the game will run 5% slower
The game speed, including the music, is dependent on frame rate, when V-sync is on, it locks to 57 FPS when it should be 60 FPS
Works on Proton 7.0-4, surprised to see it didn't screw up switching to Area X either considering that seems like a separate .exe
Ran as expected, tested Areas 1, 2, and Area X on Steam Deck. Worked great, no issues, adjusted resolution to 800p and off I went!
This groundbreaking game of the early 2000-era runs breathtaking perfectly on Linux with Proton.

Rez infinite is running great on VR with the Valve Index!
A controller may be better than the Valve Index controllers (This goes for Playstation VR also!)

6.19-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Glorious Eggroll 6.19-GE-2
Mouse control input was slighty laggy, but definitely playable and hardly noticeable.

Proton 6.19-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
No sound issues noticed using Proton 6.19-GE-2. Checked against Windows version.
- Music / sound effects between layer transitions are missing.
- Sample timing (audio is realtime-generated from MIDI files & soundbanks) is off, causing noticeable gaps between samples that should be seamless.
The audio is a central aspect of the game, so these problems are very experience-tainting when you notice them IMO.
Mouse cursor didn't show up, Alt-Tabbing once fixed this. The game also takes over mouse focus on the desktop until it's closed.
It's good enough if you've already experienced the game properly & just want to scratch that Rez itch for abit, but I can't recommend this to first-timers until the audio problems are fixed. This game must be experienced in its full audio-visual glory.
Finally it runs out of the box for a quick test of Area 1. I did not notice anything off or bad, playing with mouse controls. :)

As a huge fan, its awesome to play it on Linux via Proton 6.3.6. The missing sound effects is a boon though.
With no proton launch options specified:
- No music plays at the beginning intro screen with Eden/
- Original game: Level layer and boss phase transitions are missing accompanying sound effects to the background music track.
- No audio issues observed when playing Area X.
Are the noted issues in 1 & 2 resolvable with launch commands?
Area 5, Intro screen showing Eden, Boss section of Area 4 and any other place using white graphical elements display incorrectly from the source material when played on other platforms (Dreamcast,PS2, etc). Not sure if the issue is AMD GPU specific. Recall seeing the same graphical artifacts when playing on Windows 10.
In both the original game and Area X there is noticeable screen tear even with vsync engaged when panning the camera vertically. Possible related to my monitor but wanted to note here.
This was tested at 21:9 resolution (3440x1440)
Controller was not detected for Area X. Could be system config specific but could only play it with mouse and keyboard.
Run at 60 fps most of the time with an odd judder here and there.
Works out of the box now with Proton 6.3-6

Proton-6.13-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Proton-6.13-GE-1
Completely played through all the levels. Everything seems to work and sound is working expected, nothing is out of sync.
If you haven't played Rez before you might not notice, but the entire game's soundscape is off-kilter.
used "PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%" launch flag
audio ran at half speed and musical stings were off
fullscreen would not fill the screen unless exact screen resolution was selected
music runs slower than full speed and musical stings are off in original Rez mode. did not try Area X.
The game spawns a black screen with blinking cursor. No game possible also with several launch options and proton versions.
This game's all about being in sync with the music, so when the music sounds awful the experience turns sour.
Musical "stings" between sections in Area 5 (and during final boss fight) didn't play. Music playback furing final boss fight desynchronized in a unique manner, as some notes were queued up and played a beat late, sounding awful.
Only the left stick and "A" button worked on the controller (Steam-mapped Nintendo Switch Pro Controller). Pressing "Enter" to use special attack caused mouse to get stuck until Enter was pressed a second time -- I rebound that attack to Mouse4
Ran fine until the final boss fight. About 5 seconds into the fight, FPS tanked to 30-40 and stuttery, and the music sounded awful as beats were often missed causing notes to play late.
Locked up before playing outro cutscene
Only worked for me under Proton 3.7-8.

Black screen launches, nothing is shown
Saw the game retrying something on the console, a lot of text was scrolling up.

Game launches to a black screen, nothing happens
The classic Rez mode is still playable with Proton 3.7-8 if you set launch option "PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%"

Controller not detected.
Only runs under proton 3.7-8 with PROTON_USE_WINED3D11, otherwise only a black screen is shown.

Game just launches to a black screen and then nothing happens.
With Proton 3.7-8 and launch option "PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%" the classic mode of the game is playable.

Just a black screen and nothing happens, the original mode works with Proton 3.7-8.

Game launches to a black screen and nothing happens, game does partially work with older Proton 3.7-8

Just a black window appears and then game crashes.

Game won't launch. Has not worked for me with any Proton version newer than 3.7-8

Works after set wine d3d11 option (PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%), a bit slow sometimes, area x is still unplayable though

loads a black screen an then nothing

Game won't start, there is just a black screen and then nothing happens.

Game won't start with Proton 4.2-3 just launches to a Window with a black screen and a cursor. Tried different Proton launch options but made no difference.

Game won't start with Proton 4.2-1 just launches to a black screen. The game is playable (but only the classic mode works) on the same system with Proton 3.7-8

Game won't start just launches to a black screen, tried Proton launch options and disabling Steam overlays.

With Proton 3.16-7 game won't start just a black screen, different Proton launch options and disabling Steam overlay makes no difference. Forcing older Proton 3.7-8 the game launches and the main game is perfectly playable.

doesn't even start here -it is toggling between "starting game" and "downloading/start game" forever - PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 option didn't help as well.

Game works with the PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command% parameter added. Performance is so bad, making the game a bit unplayable (graphic lag and sound issues)

I confirm the command line "PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%" do the trick. The Zone X is still unplayable though.

Requires "PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%" to work. The main game is completely playable, the Area X mode crashes. VR was not tested.

Game has a launcher menu where you choose Stage 1-5 or Stage X, this loader doesn't work and results in a black window with a corrupt cursor. Closing this window starts the 'Rez HD' portion (Stages 1 through 5) which otherwise works fine without incident.
Stage X is impossible to start without the launcher.

i can run it on lutris but as soon as go in menu do something it crash, can play it in defaut res without touch to menu, the new zone dont work at all however. I think what is called when it run the game is kind of custom launcher but it crash so you can only play game and can't custom the menu
