OK - almost 60fps after tweaking the graphical settings

Plays pretty well for the most part. Battery life isn't great on standard/medium graphics.

On default Proton (7.0-6), the gamepad controls weren't working at all. No problems when using GE-Proton.

STEAM_COMPAT_CONFIG="" %command%
Set to Windows 7
Set 'STEAM_COMPAT_CONFIG="" %command%' and OS to Windows 7 with protontricks
Works with standard proton, but only without controllers
If it doesn't recognize the gamepad, can fix using "WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xinput1_3=b" %command%" as launch option
==================================================
To make it work, you need to edit the prefix to use Windows 7.
A full tutorial to Ubuntu:
- Install the latest Wine Staging:
wget -nc https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/winehq.key
sudo apt-key add winehq.key
sudo apt-add-repository 'https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/'
sudo apt update
sudo apt install --install-recommends winehq-staging
sudo apt install winetricks
Go to: ~/.steam/root/steamapps/compatdata/, and delete the 626610 folder.
Try to run the game again, it will create a new prefix.
On terminal: env WINEPREFIX="/home//.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/626610/pfx" winecfg
Set windows version to Windows 7

6.1-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Proton 6.1-GE-2
Slight crackling, barely noticeable.
Some minor flickering in the distance, apparently fixed by turning on vsync.
G29 wheel not detected. Steam controller and Xbone controller working perfectly.
I worked my way down from Proton 6.5-GE-1, 5., 4. till finally 3.16-9 did the trick.
Game runs fairly poorly, using any Proton version
Some weird translucent fog appears in front of the motorcycle
Game ran at around 30FPS
It crashes after a few minutes of playing

Doesn't work for me with any of the Proton version on Steam (3.*, 4.*, 5.*). It works fine with Proton-GE.
Proton-6.1-GE-2
It's a hit or miss, I tried a lot of versions, it works really well on 3.7-8 and 5.9-GE-8-ST, borked on any other.

High fps. Not a single issue.

It starts fine with bad flickering. I managed to resolve the flickering by changing display to Full Screen from Full Screen (bordered). Problem is when you restart the game you need to change this again.
After the above all seems to work great, start a race which runs smoothly but about 20 seconds in the game freezes my whole system. I tried different game modes and the same happens unfortunately

Changing Anti-Aliasing mode to FXAA to remove rendering issues. Unfortunately the game wont let me change the resolution to 1920x1080 on my 4K monitor. I tried to edit the UserSettings.cfg file to 1920x1080, but this caused the game to flicker. Currently the game is barely playable at 25 FPS due to being unable to change the resolution.

Installs and runs without additional steps. Optionally you can add the DXVK's HUD for feedback purposes, on launcher options. As expected, it uses the DXVK wrapper to translate DirectX 11 to Vulkan. On a i7 Haswell CPU with a Nvidia GTX 970 card, with Vulkan drivers, it runs at a solid 60 fps within a 1080p screen.
