Required installing Intel Indeo 3.2 for Intro cutscenes. https://archive.org/details/intel-indeo-codec-3.2-4.1-5.0 I installed the 5.0 version for Windows 95 using protontricks just fine.
Mouse is a little jumpy on low resolutions. Dropped sensitivity down.
Dropped core performance down to 1 in Powertools. Game could run on a postage stamp.
Configuration executible did not detect my game was installed when launched under proton instance. Required to edit the user.reg file to make any changes. Game defaults to 640x480 fullscreen, dsound on.
Text and HUD does not scale with resolution.
Make sure to install Indeo or the cutscenes will not work.
Don't overthink the setup. You can futz with DGVK and DGvoodoo to try to keep the UI scaled at high res. But it's like the other user said, your better off playing at the original 640X480 and scaling it with FSR. It looks much cleaner that way, and its .1% the work. Good advice for most retro 2D games on the Deck imo.
I used DXVK and DgVoodoo.
Alt-Tabbing won't let you return to the game.
Multiplayer is turn-based. Works great. No issues.

Playable with old Proton version, you can set it up lauching the configuration tool and it's good to go.
Had a little issue with cheats, I couldn't activate them. A launch option is needed for that and I couldn't manage to run the game when trying.

Use 640x480 w/ FSR
Text is too small to read at native resolution. Recommend 640x480 or 960x540, and enable FSR scaling.
For controller layout - map arrow keys to d-pad, mouse to touchpad, mouse buttons to triggers.
Enabling window mode will require running winecfg, which is a hassle for a proton prefix (use PROTON_DUMP_DEBUG_COMMANDS).
The game has severe problems getting proper focus or rendering properly in fullscreen mode. It seems to be conflicting with modern desktop environments. It is practically unplayable if one wishes to ALT+TAB away from the game. A Wine Virtual desktop works a round the issues, however. Intro video does not work.

Program shows black screen until the press of Atl+Enter.
I cannot change to windowed mode with the in-game options or with launch options. Full screen mode does not allow switching to other programs and back.

Having better experience with windowed mode, but also runs fine with fullscreen mode + Wine virtual desktop.
To resolve black screens on startup check "Skip Intro" in the configuration utility and assign LD_LIBDARY_PATH="" %command%
launch options. You can watch intro movie on YouTube.
Hangs on entering Scenario mode with Proton 4.11, switching to Proton 5.0 fixes that.

Seems to run well out of the box.

Except for two minor issues which can be quickly fixed (see below) the game plays just fine.
To see the intro video you need to install the Indeo 3.2 codec with protontricks 61500 dlls
. (Untick all other codecs but 3.2 because they may crash the installer.)
To get rid of Gnome's title bar in full screen, press Alt+Enter twice once the game has started.

Didn't test game saving. Played some of the Tutorial at 1080p

Small graphical glitches with flickering lights, hardly noticeable.
