Except for two minor issues which can be quickly fixed (see below) the game plays just fine.
To see the intro video you need to install the Indeo 3.2 codec with protontricks 61500 dlls
. (Untick all other codecs but 3.2 because they may crash the installer.)
To get rid of Gnome's title bar in full screen, press Alt+Enter twice once the game has started.
Works great. When running in a non-desktop resolution the textures are broken, but that's a non-issue for me because you usually want to play in the desktop resolution anyway.
The game does work but a couple of workarounds are needed:
- Install Indeo codecs with "protontricks 289360 icodecs" OR rename/remove the "video" directory and just watch the videos with an external video player.
- In winecfg (protontricks 289360 winecfg) go to the Graphics tab and turn on "emulate a virtual desktop".
- Before running the game, set your desktop resolution to 1024x768. (or do it via xrandr in the Steam launch options). Once you've correctly done all these actions the game will run, though with a minor slowdown.
I was using the Russian version in my experiments, but the steps should apply to the English version as well.
Game starts after doing protontricks 390310 dlls d3dx9_43 dotnet40
and removing d3dx9_43.dll
from the game's directory, but crashes with a D3D error after the intro movie. Can't be bothered to investigate further.
The game's too laggy.
The game felt very laggy
I experienced a couple of stability and performance issues that were fully solved by library tweaks. OBSE works as well, although needs to be patched to run on Proton, see https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1587351870
